Have a an 04 dodge in shop. Truck cranks and owner ws using ether to start. When reving the truck in park after you let off it would continue to climb and then come back down. Made a cap for the rail and capped off individual cylinders. Found that the truck started when i caed off #2 Installed a new injector and problem is still there just not as bad. Swapped out the pressure actuator and no change. Does not seem to have fuel in the oil. Any Ideas??

Sounds like a leaky injector. Must be multiples, since you replaced #2 and the situation improved.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the proper way of doing this job is to test every injector, then replace as necessary.

When you say, "in the shop", do you mean it's in your garage, or you're a professional mechanic and this is your customers' truck?

That's what I did as per Andres. You should cap off each one and if the truck starts then you found your culprit, that's if you only have one bad actor. To do only one then replace the injector based on that probably isn't the least expensive or the quickest way of doing it. To do all 6 really doesn't take that much time and while your in there you may as well verify the crossover tubes are torqued correctly to 37 ft lbs. If you've already replaced an injector then you know how to get to all the hard stuff on the common rail to do the test, it's just a matter of doing it. WHat I'm learning is that really is a pecking order that should be followed unless the owner is willing to toss a bunch of money at it to get it fixed quickly.
