I am new to this site. I am buying a 2004 Quad Cab DRW 4x4 automatic that has 8900 miles on it. I was hoping to get mid-teens for Mpg but was wondering if this is possible? I really wanted more power than my 1990 F-350 2WD DRW, but was kind of hoping for better MPG. Anyone have any advice, I am getting the truck under 32,000, which, according to my credit union, is under loan. It is also the MOST I've ever paid for a vehicle. Someone suggested I just drive my Ford till it dies. My question is, are the 2004 CTD,s good reliable transportation, and pulling 5th? Is this a good price? Thanks and God Bless, John

OK I'll go first.

Mid teens are about par for a 3500 4X4 DRW. I get 14. 5 avg city hwy and 11. 5 towing 10K running 4:10's. Allot of members are very optimistic when it comes to their economy claims make your own conclusions!!!!!.

You'll love the CTD I'm on my second. By the way wellcome to the TDR.

Mac

I also avg in the mid or upper 17's... ... with about 50/50 hwy driving.....

Just rolled over 20K on mine, awhile back, and now hwy mileage has moved up to high 18's, and mid 19's if on the flat alot. A few good hills, and I'll be back in the low 18's high 17's again.

Is it an '04 (305/555) or '04. 5 (325/600)? It's hope it's not a CA Standard Output (235 HP)... Those are your three different engine choices... Let us know. It would give us a better idea...

I'm assuming from the mileage it's probably a '04. 5. Realistic overall mileage will probably hover around 15 mpg w/ 4. 10's. You did not specify the ratio.

And I think you could do a little better on the price, but would need more info, i. e. : trim package, etc.

God Bless back to you and welcome to the forum.

It is a 600 and I am not sure about the rear ratio. It does only have 8800 miles on it though, you think I can do better on price? Thanks and God Bless, John

Why?

Carfax? Can you find the previous owner? Service records from DC? Buyback? Test drive it for 100 miles after you fill it up. Check the mileage by hand calcs and the overhead. Doesn't sound right for a low mileage truck to be for sale again.

I talked to dealer today and he said it has 373 rear. He claims that the original owner traded 2 trucks, the 1ton and a 3/4 ton to get one payment instead of two large payments???? He said he'll give a free carfax. He said that the owner isn't responding to his phone calls and probably just doesn't want to be bothered???? As of today, the dealer knows I'm not too happy and am probably, 99% sure, backing out of the deal. I, however, found out that Dodge is going to give employee discounts on new '05,s. I may need to go this route, or ???? Thanks all for all the advice!!!! God Bless, John Potter

With the employee discount, and the lower financing rate go new! Remember a few grand more means nothing to payments when the interest rates are much lower, ahhh the wonders of compounding rates. Get a new truck and KNOW everything that happens to the truck. Or get a 98 12v, bomb it and enjoy your own smoke shows!! :D

John, where are you located? I would check w/ Tomeygun and see if he can hook you up. With all the discounts and rebates, you should be able to come up with a pretty good price on a new one. As for your dealer, they haven't contacted the original owner. They're feeding you lies. They either- 1. . screwed him so bad he won't call them back, or 2. . they bought the truck at auction and don't know a thing about it or 3... they just don't care and won't contact anyone because they know someone will buy the truck eventually. If I'm you right now, I'm finding a good dealer or one of the guys on this board who can hook you up on an '05.

You should update your profile so we know where you're at... :)

JP

I'd blow off the deal on the DRW 4X4 auto W/3:73's, especially if you plan on towing any sizable weight. I feel you will be disappointed in that heavy beasts performance IMHO.

I am located in Knoxville, Tn. 37918. The truck I was going to buy was an SLT. I still am trying to learn how to use this site, so please excuse my mess-ups. Thanks and God Bless, John Potter
