I've got a question for the members, I have a opportunity to get a new 04, dodge is giving big rebates right now, and would like to know if there is any issues on the 04's that were corrected on the 05's worth worrying about??

Thanks in advance :p

I bought a leftover 2004 and got good deal

Now I know what I say won't buy much but get price on 05 and 04. I did find a 04 with what I wanted and good rebates also. I even made the dealer wash my truck free every time I bring It In for service. :-laf Nothing like a new truck. Mine Is In the shed all clean up waiting to go somewhere. Best of luck to you when you get your new truck. Kind of makes a fellow fell good.

From what I've learned is go for the one with the better deal. If it is a 04 you will have the 305/555 engine which is supposed to get better mpgs than the 600. If it is a 04. 5 you will have the 600 engine which might require a tsb to correct low millage. I believe that the 05s have plastic end caps on the intercooler that tend to crack when you modify the engine. Depending on the deal I would go with the 04 lower payments are always better. Which down the road means more BOMBS :D :D I'm sure others will chime in with more input. Corey

The 04 is the HO SLT with just about everything except the Laramie pkg. Invoice is 37373. 00 deduct 5550. 00 = 31922. 00 less than I paid for my 98. 5 over 7 yrs ago!! A very similiar 05 38973. 00-2300. 00=36673. 00 I think DC wants to clear the decks because of the changes with the 06's

If it's a true 04 555 then it doesn't have a the EPA requirements, cat, and has only two injections below 2K and when not under load versus the 3 injections for the 04. 5+ 600. Issue 47 of TDR discusses the evolution of the 2G->555->600->610.

A few of the 04 had vibs. So test drive first around 70-80mph, if I remember right. Mine doesn't vib.

04 - no cat, 2 injector events vs 3 , runs cooler, better mileage, stronger intercooler and I believe it is a better base to start bombing from to any degree mild to severe. :D (my humble opinion)Check for vibes.

The '05s have the lift pump in the fuel tank like a gasser instead of on the fuel filter housing like the 04. 5 and previous models. Can't say it is good or bad yet :-{} ... time will tell. I like my '05 and I drove it off the lot last October for $31750. Rebates have changed since then. Do yourself a favor and contact member tomeygun. He can give you the truth on the prices you are being quoted as to how good they really are.

Consider what the '04 is worth in replacement value from your insurance company vs an '05. My sister was in the same boat when she bought her new Honda, she opted for the newer one and as luck would have it, she was in a wreck and the car was totaled (no one hurt), she got full replacement value as it was the current model year and went out and bought another brand new one.

Were still not know for sure if your talking about an '04 325/555 or an '04. 5 325/600.

If your going automatic, the '05's have some changes to the 48RE which does not allow you to lockout OD, BUT - when using the T/H switch, the TC is locked in 3rd and remains locked. Have heard mostly good reviews on this and with the limited amount of towing I have done so far, I like it. Good luck.

Thanks everybody, will get back with you when I know more. Invoice shows "border states Emissions (California)" so I guess that answers the cat question, also says, "5. 9L Cummins HO Turbo Diesel Engine" and is an auto Tx.

If it's a CA 04 it only has 235HP and is an SO. The HO was not available in CA until the 04. 5 when HO was dropped and it was referred to as the 600 (torque).

IF it is a CA 235hp, spend the money and get a 600, you will have 90 more HP and alot more torque. If also this the auto's in the 235 hp trucks was the 47RE. The 48RE is a much better transmission.
