What are the problems with this year/model? Seems like a clean truck.

I just got one of my old hot shot trucks back and I plan to "restore" it. Its still pretty clean and has 335k on the ticker. It spent the last several years on ranch and has not seen pavement in several years. Today I worked on cleaning it up, replaced the rear tail lights/bulbs. I do not have parking lights on the driver side rear of the truck all the way back to the tail lights. I have brake/turn signals at the tail light. I figured I would start with the fuse box tomorrow and work my way back Still trying to find a diagram I can print out. Is there a separate fuse for each side for the parking lights? Anything obvious to check?

I believe they have separate fuses. The guy I sold my 04 to had a similar problem. There’s a harness plug at the drivers side front wheel behind the wheel liner. Check for power to the light at the proper pin with it unplugged. No power? Head for the IPM. Otherwise known as the fuse box. The early 3rd gen trucks had trouble with corrosion in the printed circuit under the fuses. Do a search on YouTube. There are folks who show how to cut the box apart and repair the burned circuits. My buddy checked on a new IPM. $500 and on backorder until further notice. That truck has a NV5600 and no used fuse boxes he could find matched part numbers exactly. He cut the IPM apart and soldered in a jumper wire. The defect was obvious.

They couldn't have made the proper terminology for the fuse box any more complicated. I was calling it an IPM too, and while that is technically correct, when buying parts nobody selling them calls it an IPM. For 03-05 the fuses and circuit board part is a PDC (power distribution center). There is a metal box called a FCM (forward control module) which plugs into the side of the PDC. Once the FCM is plugged into the PDC the entire assembly becomes an IPM. On the 06 and up the FCM and PDC are combined into one unit called the TIPM.

DESCRIPTION
The Integrated Power Module (IPM) is a combination of the Power Distribution Center (PDC) (1) and the Front Control Module (FCM) (2). The PDC mates directly with the FCM to form the IPM. The PDC is a printed circuit board based module that contains fuses and relays, while the FCM contains the electronics controlling the IPM and other functions. The IPM is located in the engine compartment, next to the battery and connects directly to the battery positive via a stud located on top of the unit. The ground connection is via electrical connectors. The IPM provides the primary means of voltage distribution and protection for the entire vehicle.

You might be able to look under the fuse box and see if there is any corrosion showing through the rectangular openings next to the connectors. Here is what mine looked like from underneath#ad

I do not know of anyone selling rebuilt PDCs. Dorman has rebuilt TIPMs but no PDCs, the last time I checked anyway.

Early on I had trouble with the FCM in my 04. I replaced it with a new one and still had intermittent problems. After speaking to the local auto electric guru, I removed it, cleaned the pins, and CAREFULLY put a slight twist in each pin to ensure contact with the recepticals in the IPM. End of problem. I also used a little dielectric grease.
