I have an 04 Ram that starts then almost stalls(most starts-hot and cold). It has been doing this for two weeks now, and I am getting concerned. No check engine light, no other real issues to note. It started two weeks after I reinstalled Quadzilla Xzillraider (took it off because it was causing an intermitent check engine light at about 50k). I recently I sent the Quad box in to get looked at, passed, so I put it back in at 111k miles. I thought it might be my lift pump-caused by the quad box. My lift pump went out at 60k, and i got it replaced under warranty. Again, I just figured it was the lift pump and I purchased one. I just went to swap it out and found out the dealer put in the in-tank retrofit. That was a fail on my part- multiple levels, now it is time to diagnose instead of just guessing. Thinking about it, it seems similar to when the Idle Air Control was going out on my 99 Ram.

I use the truck as a commuter, and I tow a boat to a lake a few hours away often. I have three little ones, and do not want to be stuck on the side of the road. I like to be preventative, and not wait for something to fail. Any ideas/suggestions? Not sure if this makes a difference, but I recently checked valves, all in spec. , so I didn't make any changes. This has been a great forum- got me through many problems! -Thanks

It does start immediately. It starts normal to just above 750rpm, holds 750 for about a second or so then dips below 500rpm, then back up. I just tried to recreate the problem, and it throttled twice. First time for that type of start. -no really sure that helps.

That's pretty classic FCA stuff and a fairly cheap part. I'd start with that.
Mine has been doing the opposite, idles up to 800~850 and drifts around in that area 'till it finally settles to slightly over or on 750. I've got a new FCA on the shelf and just have to find the time to stick it in there one day.
