I have a 05 with nearly 5000 miles on it.

I am getting 11mpg towing a bass boat and around 14. 5mpg without.

I have a 411 rearend.

Should I have the reflash done, or is this normal fuel econo?

Thanks in advance

I have an 03, so not sure how good the comparison will be. Mine is a six speed with the 4:10 read end. Mine started out in the mid 14 MPG range and had me worried too. It started improving around the miles you have on your truck and it got steadily better. Driving habits, etc affects it too. Can't tell you about the reflash, but with the low miles on your truck I'm betting the reflash won't do much anyway until you get it broken in a little more. Just my opinion.

My 2004. 5 was getting 14. 7not towing. I had TSP 18-037-04 done at 2500 miles and it immediately went to 18. 1 (actual)! Same roads, same driving habits.

I think someone posted here that the flash is not available for the 05. Mine is getting reflashed on Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed. My mileage is good on the hwy, around 21. 5 @ 67 mph. I tow 8800 lbs and it sucks there, about 10. 2, give or take a few tenths. Also the over head is off from 3 to 5 mph depending on the speed. When it says 15. 4 I'm getting 18. 5. When it says17 I'm getting 21. 5. When it says 10, I'm getting 10. Hand calculated of course. Currently 14,500 miles.

The flash is available for some early 05's. It all depends on engine serial numbers. Go to Ken Lengers web site klenger.net (Klenger, hope you don't mind me referring folks to you, PM me if this is a prob). You will find a copy of the TSB with the range of serial numbers (and a ton more useful info). I got it done and my mpg is up 2 in all types of driving.

Have 05 on order with 6 speed and 4. 10 rear end. Am I making a mistake not getting the 3. 73. 4. 10 is standard with off road package. Didnt realise till at home. Also dealer said engine now makes 610 ft lb tourque. Still have time to change order. 2005 2500 quad swb 6 speed flame red with off road package.

Nope, no mistake, just a GREAT reason to upgrade to 315's before delivery :D :D

I just picked up my 2005 610, with 3. 73 rear end, auto trans, first full tank was 18. 0 on the overhead, and 17. 86 hand calculated. This was all highway, a lot of stop and go, and some mountains up and down for about half of the trip. Speeds were 65-75 mph. I also can report no vibration, or any of the other issues we all have been told to look for, an amazing truck, Ron

Im beginning to wonder why the big difference between everyones trucks, flash or no flash. My 305/555 got 21mpg highway on the very first tank. My 325/600 got 13 on the very first tank. The overhead isnt real close. I assume that everyone is resetting the overhead on each fill up. I also would like to see one of these trucks go over the so called 700 mile mark on one tank. The way I have seen it, there is NO WAY my truck will hit more than 600 and that is down hill with the wind behind it. I jyst think that its possible that some guys cant use a calculator of there is a big problem with quality control at Cummins. There are soo many trucks out there with the same gear and trans option as mine, yet there is a 5 to 9 mile per gaoolon difference between us. I might add I have a rather light foot. My mileage figures are also with my 105 pound wife driving my rig. She is very thankful for the adjustable peddles! She gets the same mileage as i do. When I read some guys posting that they are getting 23 or more per gaollon, i really find that very hard to take. If that is true, You have a rather rare truck or you made a typo when you stated yours was a Quad cab 4x4. I might swallow it if it was a 2x4 6 speed but when its claimed to be the Quad Cab 4x4 with the automatic , limited slip and freeway/city driving and getting 23mpg... ... Hmmmm, I think I may have some beach front property that I will give you a great deal on in Edmond Oklahoma. Lets all get real here guys. I could post that my new truck was getting 25 city and 29 highway, just to make me feel better. I don't. Lets get some real facts. My truck makes a BIG diff when I sit at the pump on one fill up and nurse the filler for 5 extra min and I have fuel right to the top. Then drive 3 or 4 hundred miles and take a reading at the first click off on the tank. Gee, Im getting 3 more mpg! I think where all these high figures are coming from... I dont mean to pi$$ anyone off, im just giving my 2 cents of opinion, for what it may be worth.

In my opinion, most of these new 600's get about 14. 5 to 15 in the city and 16. 5 to 18 on the highway at speeds under 70.

It just makes me laugh when I see someone try to make us think he is getting 23+ at speeds over 75 mpg. . Im sorry but there is NO WAY that will ever happen to a bone stock 325/600 truck.

Im off my soap box
