Hello all

I was at the dodge dealer today they have a 05 ctd in the shop with a #6 piston bore scored the only thing is that this truck is stock no chip no power box nothing (NO MODS). they did not know what caused this to happen Cummins was not sure what happened . if you look at the walls of the rest of the bores it looks to me as if the fuel injection is putting to much fuel in to the motor and its washing the walls down this truck is a farm truck and farmers are use to letting there trucks idle for long periods of time! the person working on the truck said that this was about the 14 truck (all 05's )they have seen and have replaced the engine . (this scares me!!!!)

could this be the third event in the injectors doing this and if so is there some one out there that can reprogram the computer to stop the third event

the oil in my 05 turns black after 500 miles the oil in my 04 stays clean for 5000 miles plus 04 has 555 / 05 has 610

you could see the cross hatch in the block i did not get the milage but i will monday

I wouldn't worry so much, it wouldn't surprise me if he was blowing smoke. My brother in-laws D-Max got towed the other day and when the driver picked it up he said. . We sure do tow allot of these, some Fords and very few dodges

If the cylinder was scored, one of three things happened. Aftermarket filter not serviced regularly, box installed and over fueling, bad/dirty/sticking injector washing down the cylinder(s).

Fourth could be J-jet plugged by aftermarket oil filter, but have not seen one for a long time, and not one this new.

i work for 2 dealerships and have seen 0 with engine failures... . that is 0 as in none, trust me I would hear about it...

We had an 05 with a catastrophic failure. Half the block is gone 1 rod came apart. piston in pieces cam in many pieces. no visible damage to head. about 7k on the odo. Owner says it just quit running. Yea right... ... ... . aftermarket no name filter. Haven't got it apart to ck out the reason why yet

I had one injector replaced on my '05 at about 5000 miles. Smoke and rough running when cold tipped me off. One failed the test and was replaced. I put another 25k on it and never had another problem, ran as good as my '03s except for milage. One bad injector, and there were a few in '05, can make a big mess if not addressed.

I think if you pay attention to how the truck runs, it is unlikely you will have the same problem. There are a lot of mechanically ignorant drivers out there who run vehicles to death simply by ignoring obvious warnings. Then they all say the same thing... "It just quit running" Yeah right.
