I got the "Security Group" which is supposed to include a "Security Alarm" and "Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System". My window sticker says so.

Owner's manual (pages 30-31) says alarm is supposed to go off if a door is opened (assuming alarm is armed).

I've done this test several times. Leave a window down. Set the alarm with the factory key fob. Dash LED blinks fast for approx. 16 seconds, then continues to flash more slowly. Wait anywhere from 1-10 minutes. Reach through window to unlock and open door. In all attempts, no alarm is sounded.

I suppose I could be doing something wrong. Or misreading the owner's manual. Or maybe it just ain't working.

I really hate to take it back to the dealer. I really don't want them near my truck. So that is the last resort.

Thought I'd ask here first.

Do I understand the factory alarm operation correctly?

Anybody else have a similar problem? If so, how fixed?

Thanks.

i've never tried my alarm or the panic button to see if they work, but try doing that test, but don't pull the lock open, just grab the door handle and open the door from the inside and see if it does it. i guess i should see if mine works someday too...

When I read your post, I went outside and tried it on my 05. I set the alarm and opened the door and the alarm DID NOT go off. I set the alarm again and this time let it sit for about 30 seconds before I opened the door. I looked in on the dash to see if the red light was blinking and it was. I opened the door and the alarm went off as it should. I think when you first arm it, it takes a few seconds to set itself. try your test again by leaving the window down, arming the system, let it set for a few seconds then lift the lock as if someone did it with a coat hanger, then open the door from the outside. Let us know what happens.
