I just put the dodge remote start system on my truck. The installation is pretty easy and straight forward. But i had one problem, I bought the 2-way remote start add on kit which consists of a different antenna, dna module, transmitter. It is supose to tell you if the truck starts and works from further away. Well anyways the 2-way system would not work, i had to put the regular module and antenna in to get it to work. When i had the 2-way system installed, it would only tap the starter for like a half a second, i went through all the tach learn program a dozen times and it would not work so i don't know. But it seems to work great with the regular one on it. Has anybody ever put the 2-way kit on or already have it on there truck?

I did the exact same thing you did, and have the same issue. Split-second engagement of the starter (repeating till I hit the button again) but no start.

I've tried calling the 1-800 MOPAR number and all it does is ring but no answer. If you find a solution please share it.

I've been debating taking it to the dealer to have them complete the install, but I hate doing that.....

So you had this problem with the 2-way system or the regular system? Also did you try the regular system? Mine works fine with the regular system. I know it is something with the 2-way dna module, maybe it won't work on the diesels.

Also does anybody know how to get a detailed wiring diagram for the add on remote start harness and module that shows what it does?

I ordered both the regular remote start, and the 2-way upgrade. I installed the regular one first; then attempted to upgrade to the 2-way. With the upgrade it engages the starter for a split second (repeatedly) till I freak out and make it stop.

I reverted back to the regular system install and it works just fine. I would like the extra range of the 2-way, but truth be told, the regular has a pretty decent range, especially for such a small transmitter fob.

I have the 2-way stuff sitting on the work bench waiting to try again, but I don't know what I'd do differently.

Anything new on the remote start discussion? I am looking for a remote starter for an 06 and was wondering if the MOPAR unit has had the bugs worked out. I am also looking at a couple aftermarket units but I am curious about the install.

Would the MOPAR unit be much easier to install than a unit that is universal (for any vehicle)?

Does the MOPAR 2-way remote have rechargeable batteries?

Here are the other units I am looking at:

Clifford Matrix 70. 5X

Clifford Matrix 70. 5X (p/n 5501X) (clifford-705x) Standard Car Alarms Vehicle Security Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix

Audiovox Prestige XRO9100

Prestige XRO9100 by Audiovox LCD / 2-way Pager Car Alarms Vehicle Security Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix

Thanks,

Dave

No updates to report. In fact I was looking at the 2-Way "upgrade" stuff just yesterday; It's still sitting in the drawer, going on two years now. .

That said, I am very happy with the basic MOPAR remote start. The range is just fine for my needs. I can start my truck from the third floor of my office building when it is three or four rows out in the lot, and I can verify the engine starts by observing the parking lights coming on -- same story when parked in the driveway at home.

The scenario where you might wish for the 2-Way functionality is if you cannot see the vehicle during the start cycle. I was seeing someone who lived in a condo complex where guest parking was not within eyesight of her unit. That is why I went for the 2-Way. Turns out it was easier to break up than to solve the 2-Way problem!! LOL.

I prefer the smaller remote fob of the standard unit over the larger 2-way one as well. It's about the same size as the key so it doubles the mass of stuff you have to cram in your pocket. The basic remote fob is remarkably small.

Can't speak to the qualities (features and installation difficulty etc... ) of the other manufacturers systems, but I can speak to the MOPAR unit as being pretty straight forward for the do it your-selfer. If you are hiving it installed that might not make a difference to you.

All said I like the MOPAR for it's simplicity and ease of installation. Skip tthe 2-Way unless you really need that capability, and if you do then have it profesionally installed. - Good luck.

what does the factory remote start wack you for $$ wise on a truck not equipped with it from the factory?
