Heard the 05 Ford gets coil front springs making the front end of the

4X4 much like the Dodge. Also heard it gets 18 inch rims to make room

for larger diameter brake rotors. Looks like an improvement for the

tow rating, and for the ability to handle heavy snowplows.

only the SRW SuperDuties get 18s, the DRWs get 17s like Dodge. Powerstroke is slightly uprated to 570 lb-ft (just 10 more twists of torque). According to the specs, you only get a voltmeter if you have the 6-speed stick; if you get the TorqShift, you get a trans temp gauge instead. All diesels will have a boost gauge though. XLT and Lariat will get dual-beam headlights like GM and the 99-02 Ram sport. All SDs get a completely new front clip - new grille/bumpers.

The prelim info only mentions the torque increase. Amazing, because it still leaves Ford behind:

- Dodge: 600 lb-ft manual, 600 automatic

- GM: 520 manual, 590 automatic

- Ford: 570 manual, 570 automatic

Ford will come in 2nd with manuals and 3rd with automatics... and they have known since Dece, mber that Cummins was at 600.

And of course, it will sell like the proverbial hotcake just because it's Ford.

Thats kind of weird that the Allison rated Dmax is 70 more feet more than the 6-speed. Usually its the other way around for autos and manuals.

Maybe its because you lose 70 ft/lbs going through the Allison?

I hate Fords but I wouldnt bet aginst them to up the bar of the HP/TQ numbers at the last minute, but then agin if they cant make their heads quit leaking antifreeze, injectors quit leaking diesel, and actually sold more trucks then bought back, MAYBE, just MAYBE, they could be HP king agin.

NPloysa, as for the TQ #'s they are measured at the flywheel (motor) no trans. Also if I recall the Allison is rated for 370hp at the input shaft without mods.

Thats what I meant. Maybe they lose 70 pounds of torque through the transmission and up it at the engine so that its more equal to the 6-speed. Isn't the rough equation 20% loss for autos and 10-15% for manuals?

GM upped the ante on the Duramax/Allison combo for one reason only - 90 percent of their diesels come with the Allison. Common sense says it's cheaper to sell one 50-state engine like Ford and Dodge, but it's GM after all :)
