Title says it all--just want reassurance on the fill--put 6qis in/12pints--NV5600

anybody running this amount in this gear box, any problems??

I did't want to take top off transmission, so found steep incline to the passenger-side--

and got it all in!!

just for the record, went with Redline in all--diffs-transmission--transfer-case

Also is it 1/4", or 1/2"--below fill hole on the diffs??

thanks Rocky, now in Silver City,NM

On my '02 NV5600, I have 8 quarts loaded - but I also have oil coolers and filter installed:

No issues so far, after about 3 years use...

When I fill my NV5600, I fill to the normal fill level, then replace the plug. I then use a pump with a piece of vinyl tubing on the outlet, and fill through the top PTO bolt hole until lube comes out. I got the pump at O'reilly's. I have Blumenthals coolers on mine and I got 9 or 10 qts in.

I have 9 qts in my NV with fast coolers. It made it a little noisy when cold, so I am going to dump 1 qt.

Park on an incline and 6 qts Redline. Sounds familiar.

The last time I changed the trans oil I only had about 15,000 on it. I just needed to see what the Redline looked like. It didn't even have much color in it at all and still smelled like new oil. That time I only had it filled to the filler hole. Now there are 6 qts in there. I don't do any severe service or tow with the truck. My buddy is using Royal Purple and says the trans is a little balky until it warms up. Don't know if that's from the oil or not.

Some lube formulas can compromise the ability of the sycnchronizer clutch face surfaces to properly allow shifts without grinding, and some transmission's, like mine, tend to SLIGHTLY grind between gears if trying to shift too fast - this tendency on mine goes away in about 1/2 mile in cold weather, is not noticeable in warmer weather. I've tried several supposedly "compatible" transmission lubes, but haven't found any better than the OEM stuff. I can't imagine over-filling causing unusual noises, and wonder if it's a gear/bearing whine, or some sort of rattle or knocking noise?

I broke mine in, and then went with Pennzoil, for about 50K--now trying the redline at 6qts, no coolers.
I want to thank all for your input--we will see how this redline works out.
On a side note, I had a (4) speed VW gearbox in a buggy, and had used other lubs, changed to redline, and it liked it??

Back a few years when experimenting with various suggested substitutes for the OEM lube, I tried one of the Pennzoil lubes suggested by others here who had successfully used it, but the grinding between gears was too much for me to accept. It quickly became clear that all NV-5600's are NOT alike, and what worked well on one, could easily fail miserably on another.

I haven't noticed any noise in the cold. What would cause the noise?

I have a southbend OFE that makes the gear rollover noise more pronounced, the additional 2 qts I added last fall made it even louder in the winter.

7 quarts, 8 quarts if running trans-cools. on royal purple use a 50-50 blend of syncromax and sae50 syncromesh transmission fluid.
