I just picked up a used '05 2500 Laramie that has the OEM in-dash 6-changer stereo. When I turn the key to the "Run" position, I hear the changer making noise, like something is moving inside it and when I shut the truck off, it makes the same sound. It's almost sounds like the rack that loads the CDs is moving everytime power is applied or taken away from the stereo. Is this normal? I only ask because my '04 with the 6-changer didn't do this.

Thanks

Ryan

Also, when I drive over ripples and bumps in the road, I hear this "tinny" noise coming from behind the stereo, under the dash cover. This noise can be reproduced by lightly smacking the top of the dash. Any ideas what it might be?

I'm pretty sure my wife has the exact same radio in her 05 Liberty and I recall a similar issue when there were no CD's in it. You might try loading (old) CD's and see if it stops. Good luck.

You may already know this but I didn't know it and learned about it by asking around maybe ten years ago.

Most cities have an electronics shop that is capable of removing and repairing many small problems with factory indash sound systems. My wife drove a BMW 325 from 1993 to 2005 that had a cassette tape get jammed in the indash cassette player. I couldn't retrieve it so I asked the BMW dealership about ordering a new replacement sound system. The dealership gave me the name and location of a shop that did that kind of work for all the dealers in town. I took the car to them and a few hours later they called me to tell me it was repaired. Charge was modest.

Well, I went out today and started investigating the rattle/vibration in the dash. After taking off the center bezel, I grabbed the face of the stereo and tapped on the top of the dash- no vibration. My guess is that my hand acted as a sound damper, hence the noise went away. So, there is either something loose behind the stereo, like a metal clip screwed into the back of the unit, or maybe its the CD rack inside the unit. Next I'll throw some CDs in it and see what happens with both the cycling issue and the rattle/vibration.
