Took a short vacation from So Cal to Ratone N. M. over the 4th of July weekend. Truck and trailer weigh 23,000 lbs. I had the Quadzilla box set to the middle position and while traveling from Kingman Az to Flagstaff Az was impressed at how well the truck ran... . Speed Limit is 75 on this stretch of road and I ran at the speed limit or a little faster at times... ... 30 miles north of Albuquerque N M , while pulling a grade on I25 heard a loud pop and the sound of air rushing out... ... Exhaust temps went to the moon and power was down to nothing... ... . Limped back to Albuquerque to a dealer and within 3 hours was back on the road again with another intercooler..... sad to say another plastic tank..... turned off the Quad box the rest of the trip..... Even stock the boost still gets up to 37 lbs... ...

I ordered a aftermarket intercooler from Banks today and it should be here in a couple of days... ..... Banks claims much more efficient and more torque and hp along with better fuel mileage... ... sounds too good to be true..... I think I will be happy with just a intercoller that does not blow apart..... Will post results of Banks first time I get to pull a load with it. Oo.

UPDATE..... 07/14/2005

I ordered the Banks intercoller kit on Tuesday morning and it arrived at my home via UPS on Wednsday about 6pm..... Started the install right away worked until 11pm and finished up Thursday morning by 8 am ... . Mine took a little extra work as I have a Pac Brake with the compressor mounted on the intake manifold... ... had to move and fabricate a new mount ... .

Very nice kit..... came with new larger intake tubes from the Turbo to the intercoller and new larger tubes exiting the intercoller..... Kit and product is first rate... . The Banks unit is much larger in size and thickness..... The "High Ram" looks good and seames to work well... ... Temperature today here was about 100..... pulled the boat 5500 lbs plus truck 8800 lbs up to Silverwood today and seam to have much lower egt... . will know more when I pull the Toy Hauler... ...

I am worried about that happening on mine as well. Is there any possibility that DC will issue a TSB to replace the plastic IC with a metal one, like they are putting on late model 05s????

Good luck, a close friend tried for several weeks to get a Banks intercooler, many calls to Banks with no help at all, thought his Banks dealer was giving him the run around when they told him they had no clue where it was so tried ordering from a different dealer, same story, "they have four in stock and will ship one second day air" then weeks with no help at all from Banks.

I'll give him a call tomorrow and find out if he got it yet... .

probably not, but i would not be suprized to see that the plastic tank CAC gets its part number superceeded by another part number which ends up being a metal ended one

as i believe when the plastic tanks came out, that part number superceeded the PN for the metal ended ones off the earlier 03-04. 5's [so if you damaged a metal tank one, you could only get the plastic tanked one from the dealer unless they had new old stock]- it's going to come full circle...

Not to get off topic, but how can you tell if your truck is a late model or early model?

Just a newb trying to learn all he can.

Thanks

Mine went south to the recycle depot before it hand a chance to go south.

Here are some pics of the Banks intercooler. It's bigger in area than the stock one and also deeper. Comes with the high ram intake and all the tubes. Some people have a hate on for Banks but they don't bother me none. It took about 1 week to get.

When I popped my plastice one, the dealer said that they were no longer making the plastic ones, new part # for metal units, but on backorder, he ended up overnight shipping in a metal 03 cooler for me to get going.

My son was hauling a 48 ft trailer (05, 6-sp 3500 LWB SRW 4x2) from Cal to Tx and heard what he thought was a blown tire. Turns out the plastic intercooler blew. Stuck with load somewhere after Blyth at small dealer for almost two days trying to get it fixed. Not good when hauling is your living.

I blew the plastic tank on my 05 also, dealer replaced it with another plastic one because that was all available. I then ordered one from banks took about week and half to get here. (4th of July holiday) I installed it yesterday. With stock truck the only difference noticed was lower Egt on a hard run. Before I would have to let out of the fuel at about 90 and 1400 degrees Now I can up to about a 100 (not brave enough to go any faster) and EGT only gets to about 1350 .
