Yesterday I was test driving my truck after changing the manual shift lever and control module on transmission, I was driving about 30mph punched it till about 75mph and when I let off sounded like I had someone under the hood beating on the engine with hammers. So I put it in Neutral and coasted to a stop about 100ft then killed it, looked under the hood but no signs, checked oil still looks good? Is this going to be a dropped valve? It will not start. My luck, I was going to have the valves checked this week. Truck has 58,000. :{

Bummer man. When you crank it over does it lope or skip a beat at all? Getting any white smoke out the exhaust? A quick punch from 30-75 shouldn't hurt anything unless it was something waiting to let go. . .

It sounds like clank,clank,clank,clank, I was having a noise @ 1800-2000rpm @ about 60-70mph I had brought my truck to local diesel mech. thursday to do balance test to see if it was injectors, but he was very busy told me to come back today. I dropped it off last night and fixin to give him a call right now. What is the best way to go about fixin it if valve did drop?

Well I broke the Flexplate, I guess I got lucky this time.

When you got your full trans did you get a flexplate? I thought that was a known weak point? Are you going to get some kind of upgraded plate or did you just get a bad one and are just use the same basic type again?

Glad to hear it wasn't worse.

No, this was the stock flywheel, I ordered a BD flexplate to replace it, I would go with the billet but then you put more strain on input shafts? right. I rather the flexplate brake than the input shaft, even though I have billet shafts. The mechanic said he never seen one just ripped apart and bolts still tight.

haha yea i've done that before on my stock flexplate

punched it from 55 to 75..... shift into 4th took out my flexplate #@$%!
