I'm considering trading my 2K in on a new '05. The problems i'm having with my truck are LP failure and intermediate steering shaft clunking. I can't seem to find a dealer that can diagnose my LP failure correctly and replace it under warranty. I'm getting tired driving to all the dealerships to question the diesel mechanics. Borgeson wants $255. 00 for an upgraded steering shaft. Has Dodge addressed these problems and fixed them on the '05's?

If the lift pump and the steering are the only reasons you want a new truck, there are lots of alternatives. Lots of ways to solve the lift pump, just do a search, if you haven't already. And the steering shaft has been known to be a weak point. $400 for both problems is a lot cheaper than new payments. There are only a couple or three things that I like on my new '04. And there are A LOT of things I miss from my '01. 5.

I do like the steering on my '04. I had a Y2K and an '01. 5. The steering was way too stiff, like the ps pump was just gutless.

It's all pros and cons.

I had an 01. 5 and switched to to an 04. 5. While the 01. 5 was a great truck, and I had almost 0 problems with it, there is almost nothing that I miss about the 01. 5 compared to the 3rd gen. My milage was about 1 MPG better with the 01. 5, but I have 90 HP more power now. I really like the 4 doors, fold-down rear seat, etc of the 3rd gen.
