05, Radio needs to be pulled!

I know in times past that this has been beat to death--but I never got around to doing it!! My 05 radio sound quality sucks--I think I may have the crossed wire syndrome!! My truck was built in Oct or Nov 2004!

Can someone link me to the threads that tell HOW to pull the radio, and do the wire swap--or test, to see if that's what's needed? Thanks, R

Removal is pretty simple just remove one screw at the trash bag hook and firmly pull the hook until dash panel starts to come free. Then gradually work your way around until all clips are loose from the dash. Then remove plugs carefully from rear of heater control panel. I think mine had three if I remember. Then the stereo is held in with four bolts. Remove and pull unit from dash and disconect plug's. If you go the aftermarket route which I strongly suggest unless you have the nav unit, I would go through http://www.crutchfield.com. I have purchased through them several times and have never had a problem. They even include good directions and any hardware i. e. harnesses or adapters you will need for installation. As for testing your unit I haven't a clue. Hope this helps let me know if you need more info.

Thanks Greg, that's a great start, I printed it off this time--LOL, also looking for the crossed wire syndrome--I think it is #7 and # 8 ??? something to do with the pos--neg--speaker wires being hooked up wrong??

Don't feel bad, it took me 10 years before I learned you could hang the fuel cap on the filler door.

Rocky I switched the wires at the door speaker instead of the back of the radio. I did not want to cut and splice the wires, I wanted to switch them in the connector. I found I could not do that at the back of the radio as easy as it was at the speaker.
