I have a customer with an 05, who has an odd problem. the truck only runs rough when hot. but not all the time. the dealer says injectors and they will not warranty them because the fuel is supposedly contaminated with rust particles. allways runs good when its cold. wondering if anyone had any similar problems. let me know

thats what I told him. and I think 5k for 2 injectorsis a little excessive. the lift pump is in the tank on this thing too. weird. the dealer also told him when they had the truck that it wouldent start one morning when they had it and replaced the ecm. eventhough it never happened before. hmmmm.

also does anyone know who makes an aftermarket injector for this? its actually an 04. 5. thanks again

rust in the fuel supply? Anyway the filter would remove that. I guess the dealer says the filter only works when the truck is cold thus the rust passes through to the injectors once it gets hot?

come to think of it, my 98 used to have rust in the fuel filter every time I changed it. Wonder if it was coming from the lift pump that used to go out every 30K miles?

yeah thats what Im waying. its somewhat obvious that they are full of it. but he still has a problem. I reccomended he see another dealer, about warranty, but I would still like to know how many if any people had similar problems or if the injectors are a known problem. Dan

Oh yeah, injectors ARE a problem on the early HPCR trucks. They seem to have gotten better in the 05's but they can still be an issue especially if less than adequate fuel is used and no additives. The problem is STAR has basically quit authorizing injector changes even if they are bad. I think they tell the dealers to blame it on bad fuel and deny the warranty. If the dealer and STAR want to play call the regional advisor and raise a stink then start emailing DC and open a complaint. If DC would put a better filtration system on the trucks half the problems would appear. Tell your customer to make them fix it right.

Industrial Injection has new stock and performance injectors for that truck. Others should have them also. Good luck and let us know how it plays out.

thanks I will. at cummins I havn't seen any common rail injector failures like in the dodge pickups, thats why its odd. and that wounds exactly like what they are doing, blaming fuel and denying warranty. unbeleiveable, well not really for chrysler
