I am just about to do my trans and my guy is telling me I dont need a valve body. that dodge increased the line pressure on the 05 transmission. is that right? I see alot of people running valve body's in their 05s. I just want to make sure.
 
Increasing line pressure will indeed firm up your shifts and offer enhanced torque converter operation.



It will also promote better lubrication. However it is only a quick fix for what I consider the inevitable which is a performance transmission from builders such as DTT, and ATS.



Increasing line pressure places undue stress on the transmissions internals such as seals, line fittings ETC, which will only compromise the 48RE's normal life span.



If it were me I would leave the 48RE in it's stock configuration until it becomes time to replace the unit as a whole including the torque converter using a mor agressive stator IMHO.

well I was planning on doing a ats torque converter ,valve body,input shaft and flex plate. but I am being told I dont need the valve body because dodge has already increased line pressure in the 2005 trans, is this right.

Yes and no. The line pressure was increased but not enough to hold some serious BOMB's and hard driving. The VB mods will also give you better shifts and if they do it right fluid circulation in park. The TC and VB mods complement each other and while not absolutely neccessary they are an integral part of a performance build.



FWIW, if your trans builder doesn't understand this or doesn't want to consider the impact find one that is more open minded. If its possible put the builder in touch with your choice of trans parts supplier so EVERYONE is on the same page. Good luck. :)
 
ATSs 5star tc doesn't work well with increased line pressure - trial and ERROR! If you want some good bone jarring shifts(we are talking rattling your whole truck), then give it a shot - it gets old and your truck falls apart faster.

The ATS instructions don't say anything about not increasing line pressure - until you call them and they eventually tell you over the phone. Take the advice of above, get someone who really knows what the **** they are doing. And DO NOT mix and match transmission components from different companies.
