I have a 05 with oil blowby. It is using a quart of oil a day. I pull the oil cap off and just puffing out. Leaking profusely through crankcase breather seal. I am presuming that ring or cylinder wall damage? do u think injector seal and or sealing ring be bad and causing compression to come into valve cover area? Has 170K miles. .

Broken ring(s) are common with some power adders. Melted pistons are also a side effect. Any history\info on mods?

no mods, just stock motor 2005 r3500 std transmission 4x4. . just started loosing oil about two weeks ago, blowing past breather box seal coming out of valve cover. then take oil cap off and just blows away. . this is my father in laws vehicle. he was not very on time with oil changes.

And also has engine idle surge erratic idle, watch rail pressure and it goes from 6k to 7500 back and forth, probably a bad fca.

Sounds like it may be too late, but maybe it is just making oil (leaking injector)? With a fresh oil change (oil at right level & viscosity) does it still have blow by?

Not good.

I agree, need to check whether the engine is making oil. I bet it is. Quite likely an injector stuck open dumping diesel into the sump.

do not smell diesel in oil, oil does not thin out, can injector seal go bad and blow compression by injector and into valve cover area? if that was case, wouldnt it have misfire and possibly white smoke?

If I understand the fuel system plumbing correctly, a blown injector seal will pressurize the fuel return rail and your fuel tank.

Not if the injectors are tight in the bore and torqued down. You would have major issues with idle and running plus codes if it ever loosened up that far.

Quite likely a broken ring on at least one cylinder. Yes, that can happen stock becuase of the high EGT's these engines run. Does he tow a 5'er with it?
