My 05 with weak batteries wouldn't start after recharging the batteries overnight. It posts trouble code P2509, which is power input intermittent. What is troubling is it turns over strongly and will fire only with a squirt of starting fluid. Its not getting fuel. It only runs on the starting fluid. Seems more like a fuel problem to me, don't know which way to go. Help!

(05 2500 4x4)fass, edge juice with attitude

Probably need to research the no start conditions that Andy Redmond authored a while back in the TDR. I don't remember what # TDR it was in though. Anything from fan clutch grounded to fuel pressure issues. I assume since you are getting a P2509 you'd be correct in checking battery cabling and the PDC (fuse block and connections therein)

If one or both of the batteries are weak the charging won't do the trick. My 06 was getting stubborn about starting recently and I replaced the batteries and it kicks righ off now. bg

So it fires and then dies? If so you need to check the lift pump first. If you have fuel to the CP3 then you need to check return from the CP3 and injectors. Also do not over look the pressure relief valve on the rail. Without a rail pressure gauge it is more difficult to diagnose.

Thankyou for the replies I have fuel to the cp3 and while cranking rail pressure of 4.8 to 5 I will check the return line tomorrow am

I would assume that even while cranking, the CP3 should be putting out more than that. That sounds like lift pump pressure.
I honestly don't know if these have a bypass while cranking, but it just doesn't make sense to only see 5 psi when the rail normally has 30000 or whatever it is.

I will assume he is checking rail pressure with a digital scan gauge, and those numbers are X 1000, which means they are within normal rail pressure for cranking. Now to check injector fuel return rate, rail pressure relief valve integrity, crossover tube torque, and if still starting hard, isolating injectors one at a time. But 1st...make sure you have two good start batteries...

Update: put in new batteries, checked and wiggled all grounds, turns over fast, but still doesn't start. the P2509 code still has me wondering about wires? Blizzarding now, haven't checked cp3 return. Earlier fuel rail pressure readings were 4800-5000.

The rail pressure is fine, the 2509 is the problem. Either power to ECU is interupted or a ECU ground is bad.

turns out...it was much simpler than initially thought. Had the truck towed for $140 to electrical technician, and this brilliant individual detected that my problem was that the security system was activated due to trying to start the truck with the spare key. It would have been nice, when I bought the truck used two years ago, if I was informed that there was a security chip embedded in the master key. Spent another $108 to find that out....

Sometimes easy isn't cheap! I did the exact same thing with a Nissan Maxima I recently purchased............other than I didn't have the tow bill! Glad you got it figured out.

Yeah...might want to get triple A or something else. Having a vehicle towed on insurance counts as a claim. Our rates went up after having a vehicle towed on the insurance.

Wow! Just Wow! Something so simple...but try to remember...late model Mopar/Jeep keys with a gray colored plastic cover have a security chip imbedded.

Happy to hear you got it handled without further ado.
