Found a 2006 CTD auto for sale, has a auto trans. Build date 11/05. What trans does it have? Is it a good buy for 22000 bucks?

Gettin tired of the 47RE problems with my 98.5. Want to upgrade, but was looking for a 6 spd manual. Having problem finding one though. Don't know enough about the 48RE.

You might consider biting the bullet and getting a frist class rebuild of the auto. I hear they're a whole different animal and a great drive!

The 48RE is basically the same as the 47RE with a few upgrades and more electronic controls from the PCM. Snoking

3rd Gen trucks with manual transmissions are hard to find with low miles, my brother went through that, and is why I sold him my 2500. The truck your looking at also has the upgraded 48re that can handle an exhaust brake, 22K seems like a good price.

I've never had any issues with my truck, (except when I was the cause). Only thing I highly recommend, naturally, service it when recommended, and it's easy.

I do agree finding a manual is very hard. When I was looking for my 06, I looked through 5 states and couldn't find one. The dealerships said the manufactures have to meet EPA standards, and they so call average out how many autos and manuals they should assemble to meet this. I don't know if it's bull or not, but I didn't see a manual for the 06's until I moved east.

An '06 with the stock G56 is a little low geared in 6th. It has a .79 to 1, 6th ratio. The auto has a .69 to 1. The greatest advantage between the 47re and the 48re is that the trans holds in gear on decelleration. The 47re just free wheels. I prefer the 6 speed stick for towing. One advantage with the G56 in the '06 is that you can run a set of oversize diameter tires and gear the truck about perfectly.

I bought my 06 in January, which was my first Dodge and my first diesel, although I had driven them before, just never owned one. I paid around $20k for it from a dealer, with about 110k on it. It had a nice fiberglass topper, but that was about it for extras. It had some issues though, some of which I knew about, and others I didn't, but have since learned about. Just be aware of what you are buying and the potential hidden issues. These are the issues that mine had that I've taken care of in the last 8 months.

replaced bad gauge cluster
replaced rusted oil pan
replaced rusted exhaust system
repaired rust around rear fender wells
replaced ball joints and both linkage arms
turbo wastegate was rusted shut (added boost fooler to take advantage of it.)
replaced recirc door on heater with Heater Treater door
replaced foam in driver's seat

Now that all that work is done, its a nice truck.
