I currently own an '06 quad cab long box 4x4 with a 6spd. I've had it for 6 months and have just over 23k miles. In that time I've averaged 14mpg pulling an enclosed 24' trailer about 60% to 70% of the time.

For my '06 taxes, I'm considering trading my truck for another '06 before I accumulate too many more miles - but I have considered an automatic so my wife can drive it if/when she needs to or wants to.

So, how are those of you with autos (who drive similarly to me) doing with mileage? What advantages/disadvantages do you feel there are between the two transmissions in your opinion?

(Edit) or those of you with 6spds are welcome to share your opinions too.

Thanks.

I don't pull like you, but the auto has a higher final drive ratio (lower rpms) in OD. The 6sp allows splitting more gears BUT the '07 auto will be 6sp as well. I don't know any of the ratios of the new auto.
