Hey Guys, Long time reader... new subscriber. I just bought a new '06 6 speed. I have noticed a "rattle" in the 1600 - 2000 rpm range when shifting. It almost sounds like a skid plate or something of that sort. Anyone with any ideas. It'll be headed back to the dealer shortly, but thought I'd throw it out. Thanks, Scott.

PS I have a '99 SLT 4x4 w/ 206K TLC/Well cared for miles on it for sale. This truck is a testament to the longevity and durability of the "breed"!

Could you please post a reference to that tsb? thanks.

Tsb# 18-015-05 applys for engine# 57316510 or later produced on 1-18-05 or later... ... ... maybe 05's only?

I'll look into the heat shield. Additional info - it was cold, snowy and icey most of the day here. Had it in 4x4 for most of the day. Didn't seem to happen as consistently or much at all. I talked to a buddy of mine with an 05 6er and he said no rattle on his either. Thanks to everyone for their insight and input. It is greatly appreciated. When I find out whats up, I'll post the apparent solution.

Thanks,

Scott.

That TSB doesn't show up on the web site. Where can I get a look at it?

Apparent solution to the rattle. -10 degrees for 2 days. Per my last post, it has been real cold the last couple of days. I don't know if the rattle is frozen somewhere and will return with the upcoming warmer weather. It is supposed to be back in the 40's by Friday. But all seems well after running it in 4 wheel drive for most of the day Tuesday. Also, it has been nicely tucked in the shop at night with the block heater on and still won't do what I originally posted about.

Scott.

is this a 'buzzzzzz' or a rattle as rpm approaches 2k? If it reappears try this: put your left toes behind the clutch pedal and pressure it toward the driver's seat. My pedal buzzes in the @ 2k rpm range and I'd never have found it's source but by happenstance. I'd hope your annoyance is as easily discovered.

It's back and I'm more convinced now that it more resembles a ping or knock. You know something like you get in a gasser with low octane fuel or a timing issue. I was reading something about a wiring being rubbed that affected the cam sensor. Also read something about "spark knock" and injector failures. Could any of these conditions produce this type of sound in this RPM range (1600 - 2000)? Anyone with any other thoughts.

Thanks, Scott.
