Traveling in my 06 to Pa. stopped to fuel and had funny smell around truck??? Next stop same smell, rotten eggs... ... ... ... open the hood to find the passenger side battery smoking and acid coming out of the vent holes!!! NOT GOOD... ... but not bad for 7 yr. old batteries! CARQUEST close by, stopped there, great guys, installed 2 new batteries and off to Pa. I went! Just letting ya know!! Thanks for all the info.

Same thing happened to me last week. Driver side battery went bad and the truck boiled the passenger side battery. I was glad I caught it before it puked all over the engine compartment , or worse, exploded. 2 new Deka 665's and good to go.

I just bought an 06 with very low miles last weekend. I was amazed when I opened the hood during the inspection and saw the original batteries! I think I will replace them this weekend, 7 years is a long time for a car battery.

I replaced my OE batteries in my 02 in 2011. They were fine. But I just wasn't comfortable with batt's that old. Didn't want to get caught in the winter with a bad battery.

OE batteries

My 04 had OE batteries until last fall. Build date was 07 2003 I had read many posts last year about the long life of OE batteries and wanted to see how long mine would last. This might have been foolish, but we left IN. May 11 on a scenic trip to Alaska returning 15 Nov. Nearly all of the time a 12 volt cooler was being used. The batteries were fine until we got closer to home and colder temps. 3 times I had to use a portable battery when nite time temps were below freezing. 9 plus years on OE batteries was fantastic, I hope the new Interstates will do as well. On another note, The TDR/CMEP or CMEP/TDR tour and gathering was awesome Thanks to all for making this happen!

nunya, I would go back to your dodge dealer and ask for warranty... LOL! Maybe this is my sign to replace mine in my '04.

Well what the heck... I might as well join in.
My OEM batteries are eight years old. Not wanting to take chances, I bought a pair of yellow-top Optima batteries. I have ham radio equipment, so I need some batteries with huevos. I had red-top Optimas in my '99 and they worked very well.

My '06 batteries failed recently. I also went with Carquest.

Last week at work, my '10 6. 7 had that rotten egg smell something terrible. Visually inspected the batteries and they looked fine. Pulled the cables off and checked voltage on both, 13. 2 on one and 13. 1 on the other. Our mechanic changed both out and smell is gone. It didn't smell under the hood, but inside the cab and next to the tailpipe were to the point of making you sick. Truck only has 80K miles, seems a little soon to have the batteries go bad.

2003 3500 bought trcuk brand new just replaced batteries one month ago 150K on the clock. 10 years and 150K hope the news one last that long

My 05 3500, which I took delivery of in Nov 04, still has the OEM batteries and going strong.

When it's time to replace the batteries, the best place for new ones is Costco. Costco batteries are made by Johnson Control, which are the same as Dodge OEM, Sears Diehard, Interstate, Wal-Mart and a few others. I believe Costco has the best prices and Warranty.
