06 Center Console will no open

I have an 06 with split bench. The center console latch with not release. I have Geno's cup holder in truck. Any ideas on getting to open.

Have had the same thing twice, when you do get it open you need to extend the latch pin or it will happen again.



There is a swinging lever in the latchworks and the reason it is there is to keep some kid from releasing the latch when the console is in the upright position and dumping everything in the console onto the rear floor. When you bring the console down it is designed to swing away so the the latch will operate.



When the Geno's cupholder is added you extend that pin as part of the installation, you did not extend it enough (just like me. . ). If you slam the cover just right the swinging lever jams the latch and you can not open it. Been there, have the T-Shirt.



The method I have honed to a fine art is as follows. .



Get in the driver's seat, twist upper torso so that you are facing the console. Put left hand to the latch (don't squeeze the latch release)and press down slightly on the console cover, take right hand and smack the rear of the console itsef flat handed by swinging arm from the rear seat forward. Try the latch. Repeat, repeat.

It may take several attempts before you get the lever to swing out from the latch works.
