:mad:OK, I'm working on an 06 that has a strange charging system problem. The check gauges light came on and saw that the voltage qauge had gone to zero. After the shop the truck went to replaced a bad wiring harness all seemed to be good for about a week. It failed again so the alternator and batteries were replaced, all looked good for a few days and the problem showed up again. As it is now I can drive the truck for 10 to 20 miles and the charging system will shut off, as verified with a Fluke meter, after the truck has completely cooled down it will work again for another 10 to 20 miles. Problem seems to be heat related but can't be sure, I'm trying to get any codes to see if there is anything there, the key trick doesn't seem to work on a 06 as far as I can tell.

its probably the tipm or the alternator.
I would get the alt to a alt shop to have it load tested.

roll the key 3 times it does work on 06. (sometimes i have to try a couple times)

get the codes, and that will help us.
Any mods on the electrical system?

X2 on the temp sensor, located underneath the drivers side battery.

The temp sensor monitors battery temp in order to better regulate the charge voltage. If it goes bad, and they do, it can shut down the alternator charging.

Let me just say that in all my years working on Dodges I have yet to find a failed batt temp sensor... ... ... ... . there were some that got replaced that should not have been due to software irationality by the unknowing ;)

Winterized trucks here in Alaska that have not had the battery temp sensors pulled out of the battery trays will always pop a rationality code and NEVER cause the charging system to shut down. Just my experience with them.

There is a flash to fix that issue... ... ... ... . Rationality code

If the person just pulls the temp sensor out of the battery tray and zip ties it to the side somewhere, the code won't happen. No reflash needed if its done right. The battery pad heaters heat it up to over 100 degrees f and the intake temp on a cold night even with a block heater can be -10 to -20. Too much of a temp difference.
