Taking my '06 2500 to R & R Diesel in Akron, Ohio tomorrow for a checkup. Going to have the valves set and have sensors checked, a new belt installed. I've got 95,k miles on it - - - I there any thing I should have them checked.

B&B is an independant Cummins Shop that I've used in the past with good results

Are you leaving it there? I only ask because the valve lash is to be set when cold. Some shops ignore this fact. Don't let them tell you otherwise!

My personal mechanic and friend says the Cummins engine rarely needs much valve adjustement even at 150k to 200k unless the cylinder head has been removed.

I am at the same mileage on my 2004. 5 and plan to do the belt and the belt tensioner. Got both from Geno's. The tensioner has caused a lot of problems on non diesel vehicles at about the same mileage which is why I am doing it. With the noise a diesel makes, I cannot hear if it's making noise. Well, that and my poor hearing. I also thought I might change the anti-freeze. The solution is likely still good but I am told the water pump lubricant protection goes away.

The belt looks like a problem to change for the DYI person. Really tight clearance and the fan might have to be disconnected first or worse. Won't know until I get there unless someone else has done this.

Changing the belt is a 10 minute job. You need a 1/2" drive breaker bar, and a helper is useful, but not required. The fan pulley is on the outside of the belt, so there's no need to mess with the wiring.

Well got it done - - -didn't know about the "cold" requirement, but it did set for three ehours before the work was done - - -I had replaced the tensioner last fall - - the bearing was a little loose, and since I was near Geno's picked one up from them, that and a Gator Back belt were done - - water pump showed no signs of problems when they checked it so it was an uneventful operation - - no suprises.

Thanks for all the answers
