I've programmed 2 spares for my Ram and 3 jeeps in the last 6 months. It all started when I bought a used Jeep and it came with one key. %^%. Dealer programmed an eBay key for $45. I was OK with that. Had to send daughter to dealer with title and insurance to prove ownership. Chipped Ram/Jeep keys are available on eBay for around $20/pr. You need to have them cut (HomeDepot is pretty good about doing it on a slow evening for free). You need 2 working keys to make the third. You might try reprogramming your vbad key. Bad keys (in my experience) start the truck but it dies withing a few seconds.
You don't "program the key", you program the ECM to accept a new key (chip). The chip generates a new passcode every time it's used so I'd guess you can't use one key on several vehicles.
Ok..... Why do I need this on my truck or my jeep that will be used in the real world where things happen???? If someone wants your car they will just take it No chip key will slow down a toe truck... ...
I think it's so you can give your key to a valet so he can park your car. He cannot make a working copy with just the one key. Yeah, a pain in the ARSE for those of us that don't give our keys (or trucks) to anyone else.
