I want to add a 7 pin trailer connection in the back of my 2006 CDT bed, but have read some past post about both turn signal circuits have no fuses. I've read about a Reese Adaptor # 15387 that plugs between the factory installed 7 pin bumper connector and the wiring connector. I think this Reese T - adaptor only has four wires.

My questions are 1. ) which circuit wires does it have and which cicuit wires do I have to add. 2. ) where can one order this Reese Adaptor # 15387?

With the constant ongoing posts of warranty voids, I'm concerned about adding a 7 pin plug in the bed and having to splice into the factory harness.

3. ) does anyone make a T- adaptor for all seven wire connectors?

I know there are knowledable people in this great forum

Thanks in advance for any responses. :)

06 7 Pin Trailer Connector

Klenger

Thank you for the link. I plan on getting one of these T-connectors for my 06 CTD. If I have any problems installing it, I will post it for anyone else who wants to do this.

Again, thank you.

With all the concern about the warranty issues with cutting into the truck's wiring, I offer the solution that I did on my old Ford when I got a gooseneck trailer. I made up a 5 foot jumper cable with the 7 pin male for the truck side (mine was the ATA 7 round pins) and a 6 pin round female (to fit the gooseneck) on the other end. Worked like a charm. Just pluged the 7 pin to the connector on the bumper and tied the 6 pin end up in the bed to keep if from dragging. I used a wire tye to the stake pocket or the safety chain u-bolts. No cutting, just another cable to keep the connectors clean on and track of.

I bought a 7 pin extension cord that plugs into the connector at the rear and run it into the bed, I ordered it from a site that sells Reese hitches, about 30. 00 I believe. Saw several of them when I was looking for a fifth wheel hitch. bg

It is as fused as the stock 7 pin plug in the bumper. It does not have seperate fuses. The new T wire harness is plugged between the stock wire harness and the back of the Connector in the bumper. I guess you could soldier inline fuses into each wire - it is in a split loom cover.

Try The Dealer

I picked up an add-in harness from the local dealer. It had it's own relay and basically it's own circuit. It plugs in between the existing tail light circuits. You have to run a power wire and connect into the trailer brake wire.

It basically gives you a new circuit, instead of revamping the existing one.

They had kits for both 2nd & 3rd Gen trucks. . I paid $100. 00.
