Is anyone running stock turbo with 100hp injectors? Is it possible to add too much fuel in the higher rpm, to put the fire out, make the engine cut out/ sputter. Fuel pressure is good, rail pressure stays strong as well.

100hp at a full tilt boogie is going to strain the CP-3, the turbo, and about everything else.

What upgrades to fuel system do you have?

What fueling mods?

What is LP pressure and boost when it cuts out?

Boost pressure is between 38 to 43, rail pressure hold's at 22,000 at wide open throttle, fuel pressure stays at 14 psi. Has an air dog 150, and a tank sump, edge juice with attitude.

Too much fuel for the stock turbo, it shouldn't make it sputter just too hot! What are your EGT's?

At 22K WOT you are starting to drain the rail. You should be seeing 23K WOT from 2500+ rpms.

That's also a LOT of boost for the HE351, not to mention the drive pressure is probably thru the roof.

I would look at a CP3 mod and a turbo.

In addition to what AH said, the EJ is probably extending the duration too far trying to compensate. 22k may or may not be low depending on load though.

Do you get the same reaction stock and other levels on the EJ?

Without any CP-3 mods and the EJ turned up its out of fuel flow for sure.

Edge cuts back at 1350, what psi should I set my water meth to come on at half, spray, then psi for full spray, where I had it set before makes it cut out with the new injectors. what turbo would be good all around. Cp3 bag of parts good?, reliable? Or worth the money?

That is a recipe for melted piston(s). Your way too high on the EGT's, 1200 max if you know what timing it is running or better yet 1100 to be safe cuz the EJ runs way to hot IMO.

If your having spray it with just an empty truck to keep EGT's down your gonna have a basket case before long. You definitely need more air, studs, etc. What turbo wil depend on transmission, use, and power level you want.

A Bag-of-Parts will help a lot depending on what your trying to do.

If you want to make power and keep that engine intact better ditch the Edge and go EFI live or a Smarty depending on how much you want to play with it.

My guess is the EJ doesn't really add too much timing over stock and that's why it's so bloody hot compared to a Smarty. I know that my timing is NOT very aggressive but I am 20° over stock in some places.

It stays under 1200 unless at wide open throttle. Mostly just use the spray for towing and dyno runs. But would like to get it tuned in good. so its on tap. it's a 6 speed manual, and does have 4. 10s. I would like to stay with a single turbo.

The 4. 10's help give back a lot the 37" tires take away but it is still border line on matching power to leverage. The intake helps but the exhaust hurts, its about a wash.

How heavy are you towing and where? If your mainly on the prairie and out to Moses lake its a lot different than spending your time on Whitebird, Lookout, or 4th of July and the like.

An SPS 64\12 would be a good compromise if you want to tow fairly heavy. A 64\14 or 66\14 or 64\13 would be better at the top end but a bugger trying to tow fairly heavy on grades at slower speeds. A 62\12 would probably be ideal if you don't want BIG power.

You have the capability to use the fuel but won't be able to towing unless you go with twins. A twins setup using your stocker might be a good choice all around also and then upgrade the stocker if you want more later.

You going down to Meridian for the dyno day?

Ok thanks for the help. I've been leaning twards a 64mm, but still un sure. Just found out it was a bad map sensor making the truck stumble. Was making the wastgate dump. Smokey on the bottom end and the top when mashed, but very controllable and cleans up nicely untill i get a turbo. Not gonna make it there. But Im gonna run on the 19th in Spokane, at the college. Did the water meth after the last dyno run a few months ago in Missoula, and the, injectors a week ago. Hopefully see a little gain. I know it's gonna be a hot run and not to it's potential without more air. But hopefully an increase.

Glad you found the MAP as the problem. Helps when things work a little right. :)

The 64 mm turbos are good for power but they can be a dog to spool and keep from barking when towing. Lighter loads are not bad but once you go past 10k its gets tought to control them. The 12 housing helps but drive pressure becomes the problem.

Twins, baby, twins. Run down to Boise and pick up a twins set using the stocker. That might make as much sense as new turbo. When you outgrow the stocker then upgrade it.

What twin kit would you recommend? one of my friends has a close setup except for smarty, ats auto, and he has a detech towing twin kit on his, and his temps are still on the warm side. And also any idea on what psi to start injecting. Before injectors, first stage was coming on at 18, and both nozzles at full spray at 30.

The way the stock turbo builds boost when it's not really needed I would run 20 on the 1st stage at 28 on the 2nd, but playing with it will tell you.

With any tuning and 100's you really do need twins to keep it cool if your towing around the mountains.

A 63 is supposed to flow like a 64 and spool like a 62...

Thanks. I 've got a week to play with it before the dyno, I don't tow much now, but occasionally. I wanna try and find a used 64 to try and see what it's like, temps, spool, surge, before I spend the money on a new one or possibly twins. Want to be in the 550 to 600hp range.

Don't forget to add head studs to your shopping list. A bigger turbo or twins combined with 100 hp injectors should be adequate to relieve your head gasket of it's duties...

I still use stock injectors with my ATS Aurora 4000 compound system and Smarty, and I'm around 46-48. Any more and I will need studs.

Definitely on my list, back to the cp3, bag of parts? Or is a duramax cp3 an option? Also on the rail pressure, does a pressure box make the pump run harder/ more fuel? Or what do they do?
