My buddy and I went out early this morning for a duck hunt. We got to the site, parked, and hunted. Truck was running fine. When we were ready to leave, the truck started, ran for a few seconds, and quit. It did this a few times. Finally, it wouldn't start at all. I checked for codes and got none. I drained some fuel out of the filter, thinking water in the fuel. Still wouldn't start. It then dawned on me that there was no fuel pump noise. We checked the fuses, but couldn't find any that specifically said fuel pump. A little more reading in the manual said if fuel pressure is lost (like after draining from the filter), crank for 2 seconds, then leave the key in the on position. We then got pump sound and the engine started. Truck ran fine all the way home. What would have caused this? Does that procedure "reset" something in the fuel pump? It was in the mid 20's and we had driven about 40 miles earlier in the day. Is there a fuse for the fuel pump? Tank was almost full, never had this happen before. Any light shed upon the subject would be appreciated!

Maybe WATER in the system. There is a fuel heater in the filter cannister. Most systems like FUEL PUMP won't have a fuse. Its so it can't be tampered with and blow etc. Its controled by ecm/pcm.

It ran fine yesterday, so I don't think water in fuel. The pump just didn't pump. Still don't have any idea why. I'm not overly concerned, but I really don't want it to happen again and decide that's it!:{

There wouldn't be a relay hiding somewhere would there?? That's what it sounds like...

But if DP is correct about the ECM controlling the fuel pump solely, then I would suspect a fuel pump getting ready to die, a bad wiring connection, or the ECM is screwy...

I suppose if there was a little moisture along the way, it could have frozen making a "cork". If the pump built up pressure, it wouldn't pump. Then the ice moves on. Hope it's as simple as that.
