2007 Jeep Rubicon Diesel Conversion

electric fan cooling system

Just started swapping a Liberty CRD into a new Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I'll post some pic's tomorrow if I get a chance. We have the engine sitting in it and are in the process of making mounts. ***FYI*** The factory Liberty CRD mounts look just like the gel filled ones used in the cummins 4bt bread trucks, but are only about $30 each from Jeep!!! These are a fraction of the price of the GM gel mounts.

Just got an '05 Rubi, and after having the 38 gallon, standard cab Ram, the little 20 gallon tank seems to need filling an awful lot. When you're all done, you REALLY need to campaign this puppy! Please keep us posted.

Did you just get a crate CRD motor? or pull it out of a liberty?

If you are just pulling it out of the liberty, you are pulling most of the electronics as well I take it?

awesome!

so those are gel filled mounts?

i wonder if you can use those instead of the square p30 ones on the same mount

Rubicon CRD

It was a new motor and transmission from a transport damaged Liberty that never made it to the dealer. Liberty had 2 miles and the Rubicon has only 3 miles. The wiring looks like it should be pretty simple(however looks can be decieving  ) The mounts appear to be the gel style, but I could be wrong. The ones that have come with the 4bt motors I have gotten have looked just like these(round). I haven't seen the square style mount.

so you're swapping the wire harness outa the liberty aswell I take it?

I just bought an '06 Wrangler SE with the 2. 4 Neon motor and Mercedes 6-speed. I was wondering when someone was going to do this swap, because I plan on doing it eventually. I will be watching this thread close! Thanks for taking the initiative!Oo.

Very cool.

In the first shot - it looks like there's another white Rubicon in the background. Do you work for (or own) some kind of Jeep-specific shop?

Cubic dollars aside, this looks like a very doable and advantageous swap.

How do you get a line on "transport" damaged vehicles? If you dont mind saying, how much did you spend for that Jeep?

Excuse me if this is a dumb question but... I've found no reference to if this Liberty CRD is a turbo or not? Off topic, sorry, but I've been wanting to know! Thanks.

hey look at the posted pics you can see a little tinny turbo sitting in there

Hey, you are building my perfect vehicle! I'll go ahead and place my order for your next one... 6-speed manual, please.

If the computer module is done the way they do the VW Tdi engine, there should be two harnesses. One is for the engine signals and the other is everything else. Have you tried disconnecting the "other" harness and then run the engine? I pulled a Tdi engine and engine harness for a future boat project but did not get a chance to test run it with only the engine harness plugged in. It makes sense that you would only need the engine harness. Do you have the software to look at the engine related computer signals while the engine is running? I was figuring that that software would help with any troublshooting I may have to perform during my Tdi installation.
