I went through the same thing you're dealing with after "bumping" into a doe two years ago during the last real winter we had in Spokane. I bet I wasn't doing more than 20-25 mph, on ice, when she ran right across my path. She hit pretty flush with the factory bumper and cracked the plastic cover on the passenger side with her rear end and cracked the surround on the grill with her head.
The doe slid about 35' on her side on the black ice, jumped up and bounded off - I'm sure she had a heck of a headache, but the truck looked worse. This really set me to thinking about that row of radiators, heat exchangers, etc. right behind the grill and how vulnerable they are to catastrophic damage from a relatively minor collision with another vehicle or critter.
While I prefer the look of the factory front end the thought of drilling another deer or elk at a higher speed convinced me to look to the aftermarket strictly for practical reasons. Right now the deer are running thick and each trip from Nine Mile into town I see at least one or two fresh kills alongside the road. Luckily for me just three days ago I was about 400 yards behind a guy in a Chevy pickup that nailed a deer on Hwy 291, a few seconds later it would've been me.
I ended up finding a used ARB for $500 in great shape including the fog lights (for whatever they're worth anyway). I liked a couple of the aluminum replacements but the cost was beyond me, and most of the well built steel units just weigh too much for the weak front end. ARB was a compromise and so far I'm happy with it.
Sounds like you're in the same dilemma I had... whatever you decide good luck, just consider though what you might be thinking if you collide with a good sized varmint and lose the use of your truck for a couple weeks, plus the insurance claim and their typical retaliatory response at renewal time.
Something about buy once, cry once comes to mind too!
