hey everyone, i found a 06 2500 mega, it looks good in side and out, the sticker says 3. 73 what fuel milage are yall running, will be doing 50/50 driving. i would like the room for the fam but should the quad better in milage and love the long bed, i got a lot of crap..... thanks in advance... ... be safe... .

Ahhhh.

The fuel mileage of the old 06s... Well I have a 3500 Mega cab with a six speed 3. 73s. The best I ever saw was 18 MPG driving miss daisy, not over 63 and straight highway driving. Winter in Alaska I see 12-13 MPG. All of these are unloaded. I think most are pretty dissapointed with the mileage, but rumor has it mileage increases after break in (20K miles). To be honest I thought this truck would get a little better mileage than I have seen, being the 3rd Diesel I have owned. It gets the worst "diesel" mileage of the 3 in my clan, but it is moving almost 8K down the road... Hope it helps,

Shane

Mine started at about 15. 5 average for an 80 mile round trip commute with 60-70% freeway. I now have 20,000. I have made 2 towing trips, one of 3700 miles and one of 1000 miles+ towing a 5-7000 trailer at 70+ mph, the most recent trip a month ago. After each tow the mileage went up slightly. I'm now at about 18 on my commute. They DO get better with break in miles. NOTE mine is a dually with 3. 73s/6 speed.

I have an 06 auto with 3. 73's. I haven't done hand calcs yet, but the wishometer gives me around 15 to 16 around town. I just turned 15K. I LOVEOo. the Megacab. I used to have a bunch of stuff in my 8 foot bed. Much of that now resides behind the back seat with room to spare. All my jack gear, come-a-long, ropes, bungees, tarps, etc. There are times I miss the 8 foot bed, but they are far outweighed by the size of the interior. I put a rack on for hauling my little boat and stuff that is longer than 6'. I still think it looks kinda funny from the outside, but it looks GREAT from the inside! And that's where I am most of the time. :-laf

My quess is that a short bed mega cab will get very close to the same mileage as a quad cab long bed. It seems the frontal area is the same and the weight difference can't be much. Driven the same, I don't think mileage would be a deal breaker. But what the heck do I know!! :)

20k miles on mine. My only long trip to date (2500 miles) I hand calculated 18. 5 mpg @ 70mph. Around town with some freeway mixed in I was seeing about 15. 5. I keep a log, have averaged 16. 78 mpg over life of truck. I also calculate cost of driving, figuring in fuel, fuel additive (Stanadyne), oil changes, tire rotation, fuel filters etc. : 19. 98cents/mile for 20k miles. I replace my own filters and oil. Interesting point: I made two 1000 mile all freeway trips to break her in a bit when she was brand new. I got 19. 8 miles per gallon varying 65-70 mph. Bed was empty, gate up. I put a shell on her and my hwy miles/gal dropped to 18. 5. Towing 8000# trailer I get 12. 5-13. 0 mpg. Hwy mileage is affected by speed, it goes down noticably over 65-70mph.

I wish I was able to get more than 14 mpg I just got an 07. 5 with the 6. 7 DRW 4x4 MC six speed auto with 3. 73's I have 350 miles on it now and 14. 0 is the best I have seen on the computer so far. It's hard to drive under 60mph on the hwy the truck just wants to roll

At 350 miles, don't even think that's all you will get. It WILL get a lot better. After you have it broken in, 1000 miles or so, go tow something with it. Working it some will break it in faster. Do a hand calc and see how close the computer is. You are probably only getting 12 or so actually. The "DRW, 4x4, MC" doesn't help any.

thanks for all the replies, got one kid and will have another come next summer, diffently need the room. i would also suspect it would be about close to a quad lwb. i let yall know what happens and keep the forum in about my milage, thanks again... ... be safe... .

I have a little over 8K on my 06 MC. I drive 10% city and 90% highway. I am getting 20 mpg hand calculated. Driving realy smooth, easy takeoff and not over 65 mph on cruise. Hope this helps.

My 06 Wuad cab 5. 9l got 18 the day I drove it new off the lot. As soon as I had my 500 miles on it, I hooked it up to the horse trailer and off I went and really worked it... My mileage went right up to 22 empty and about 20 around town. . ( Not real stop and go). 6 speed 3. 73 4x2... . My new 07 is Identical (5. 9l) and has already done 1500 miles of hard towing with 2500 total miles on the odo... First time I towed I got 11PMG and Just filled up after along tow and got 14. 1... Very pleased. . WORK IT!
