Archived 06 starting problem.. a few times it ran for about 5 seconds

I am having some tipm problems. but mainly trailer lights, as else works and has been running fine.



Today's issue--It would start and run for about 5 seconds and shut off. It did about 4 times of this, and now it wont start. Starter is turning over motor fine. the fuel gauge i got installed reads:

12 ish at ignition on (and can hear pump running

and almost drops to 2-0psi when cranking.



I have factory filter and GDP @mic filter prior to the injection pump.

The gauge is after all filters and just prior to the injection pump.

Truck has been running okay.

i just changed the factory filter
Now it reads around 12 psi with the key on
and around 12ish while cranking.
Still not even an attempt to fire...
Help please...

no codes and no lights.
fuel looks faint lime green, and smells like diesel

I assume no rail pressure gauge? Todd at T&C Diesel talked me through a similar problem over the phone. I would probably say to loosen a high pressure line off the fuel rail and crank the motor to see if you are spraying fuel at that point. You may have a problem in your high pressure pump like I did, but there are other things to check first.

i do have fuel coming out of inj #1 tube
no rail pressure gauage.

With tube just loosened, does it spray or just come out? Maybe not enough pressure to pop the injector. I thought I remembered they need around 3,000 to pop.

a little more than a dribble of fuel. .

With Tods help at TC diesel i am now up and running.
All we did was unplug inj pump, cycle the starter. reconnect it.
Unhooked the batteries for about 10 minutes-reconnected them
It started right up!!!!!
I is an apparent intermittent communication problem some where.

TC comes to my rescue for now. thanks Todd!

Sounds just like mine when I tried to start it with a non chipped key, after the third attempt it won't start at all and has to be cleared by dealer. bg

Sad state of affairs when you have to "Reboot" to get you vehicle running.

yea,, reboot. . maybe a damn Chrysler devil ghost!
my mom has several in her grand Cherokee Cant ever get the electrical right on that piece...

so until i get a definitive code or a total failure, it looks like if it happens again, and Todd said this, i gotta reboot it! (aka unhook batteries. . )

If theres any evidence of corrosion on any connections, I`d high recommend TV tuner cleaner/lube from Radio shack. Had good luck with it
