EGT's seem way too high under normal driving circumstances?

I have been told that my stock turbo is internally restictive to the point of causing higher EGTs. Is this true?

If true I'm looking for info. to improve this situation, short of buying a new turbo, which I plan on doing in the future. (one - two years )

Thanks for any help on this,

Ray

It's only a problem if you try to exceed it's efficiency by adding more fuel or by trying to make more boost than stock. Unless you plan on bombing this thing I wouldn't worry about replacing your stock turbo.

If you're just looking for a basic upgrade, don't do it unless you plan on doing many mods and going for the big hp to truly make it work. Even just swapping the turbo while having a box, exhaust, and intake isn't worth it. I did that, and I have an SPS62. I wish I hadn't. The driveability with the stock turbo was much better. But that's my opinion. I'm sure there are many others here who are wearing rose-colored glasses after the huge investment.

If you've registered your engine with Cummins, you get a prospectus-like brochure periodically. A past issue's focus was the subsidiary Holset. I'm probably mistaken, but, I seem to remember reading about their manufacturing process and their larger turbo for stock replacement. Kinda' like an aftermarket upgrade from the manufacturer. Maybe not!

They do have upgrades but not approved for warranty. One is based on the hx40-8. 3 liter

One of the past TDR issues did an excellent comparison between the stock charger and an upgrade to the ATS Aurora. It's very in depth and should give you all you need to know to make this decision. Remember, emissions has decided the sizing of the stock turbo, not efficiency or performance.

OK what about if you put in a bigger IC in the truck maybe that would buy some time till a better stock replacement comes out. I know the ford 7. 3 has that garrett BB thats a great stock replacement. I know that turboneticts makes a turbo for the 5. 9 also it's a crematic ball bearing
