06 wants to race!

Thanks, TDR Staff

I need some incite on a P0192 code

OK, will keep the truck and upgrade transmission, add compound turbo

Hi Guys...I have an issue with my 06 that just started happening. Just changed the oil last weekend along with a water pump and a new belt. Truck ran fine for a week up until this morning. Took an extra 3 seconds to start...then when I pull up to a stop sign and apply the brakes, the truck starts to downshift like it should but when I get to first gear, the truck's RPMs rise to the point where I have to apply the brakes pretty hard to stay stopped. If I shift into Park or Neutral, the RPMs race for a second and then drop down to normal. When I shift back into drive, the RPMs climb again! On the road it seems fine but maybe a little more laggy and smokey. I am have been running my Smarty S-06 on SW#4 and it's been fine up until now.
This is weird! I was wondering if these trucks have a throttle position sensor that can go bad? I am going to disconnect the batteries when I get home tonight and see if the clears the problem. No codes have have been thrown yet so I can't read anything with my Smarty.
Anyone have this happen?

149k on the odo
4x4
triple disk TC with Goerend VB
Smarty S-06
Trans mystery switch
Boost Fooler

Thanks!

I got home and pulled the battery cables for 30 minutes (grounds) and it still is doing it. Then I put the truck back to stock and looked for codes and there was a P1740 dtc . I have seen those before with my triple disk TC with no issues.
I am flummoxed! Anyone???

Thanks PWong.
When I come to a stop...the truck downshifts like it should and when it gets to 1st, it will start surging and want to take off. I have to hold the brakes tight. Then when i take off...I release the brakes and it surges forward and then drops the RPMs. It will hit every gear as I accelerate but it seems to be short-shifting and lagging the truck pretty badly. I was in heavy bumper to bumper traffic this morning and the trans was getting warm and so was the engine just because I was holding on the brakes the whole time. Its like pressing on the gas and the brakes at the same time.
It feels like the transmission is not releasing as it should to idle. If there is a mechanism that is supposed to disengage the trans from the engine at idle...there could be my problem.
Anyone? Cerb??
Thanks in advance. I really don't want to go to the transmission shop and get jacked around and told I need a new transmission. The current rebuild with the triple disk and the Goerend VB is only 3 years old and I have not abused the unit at all.

In order of common failure:

1. Sprag clutch on the stator is failing.

2. VB has a piece of crap in the release circuit for the TCC and it partially applying it.

3. The pump cover warps and allows pressure into the lockup circuit.

Its down at the transmission shop today. Let's see what they come up with. I drove the truck with the shop owner who originally did the install and he said it's definitely not right. It was intermittent and it sis it with him driving so...we'll see. I have recommended others to his shop and he knows that they have spent significant $$ like I did with him so let's see how good he takes care of me. He said...I will take care of you. =Worried
Thanks for your input. It has a billet triple in it so???

Cerb...A billet TC should not warp should it? Isn't that why they go with a billet TC in the first place? I assume the Sprag clutch is in the TC's stator? Transmissions are like Greek to me.
Thanks for your input...all of you. I will report. Someone mentioned interference from the alternator. They said they saw where a resistor was installed and it cured the issue.

Sprag clutch is on the stator, it is what gives you free wheeling and stall under 30 mph. If that sprag seizes and does not release the stator is partially locked to the input shaft and it wants to move all the time. Depending on who's TC you bought you may have nothing more than a stock start in there.

A billet cover is to keep the cover from warping form the pressure of the lockup clutch on it, heat, and high TQ loads. A billet cover TC can get ballooned on the back side just as easy as a stocker due to VB failure or misguided modifications to said VB. Possibly that could cause interference in TCC apply and release.

The TCC circuit in the VB has a vent hole that is supposed to bleed pressure out when the solenoid releases, if that plug sit bleeds out slow, doesn't bleed at all, or will intermittently not bleed off causing the TCC to drag and emulate a sprag failure. Orifice is very small, a small piece of metal left over form the build or even wear can plug it.

The pump cover holds the pump and the stator support of the TC in alignment. If the cover warps for any reason the circuits that run thru it control TCC and fluid flow in the TC will cross bleed and cause the TCC to drag. Warpage could be from hanging the heavy TC on the stator support too long, age and\or excess heat and TQ, or even a slightly mis-built TC.

Those are the most common failures and reasons, could be the TC has decided to just go Tango Uniform also. Probably will need a dis-assembly to find the real issue.

UPDATE: Well it was the TC that was acting up. TriCity Transmission in TEMPE AZ did the rebuild 3 years ago with a Precision Industries triple disk TC and it looks like it crapped out. (Cerb...right again!) Dave over at TriCity said he'd take care of it even though it was out of warranty and.....HE DID! $0! They went through the entire transmission, upgraded the solenoid with the GM model and actually upgraded the TC to a newer 4 disk surface TC. I showed up, they handed me the keys and it drives like better than new! I am really glad that he's got pride in his workmanship and his shop! I would highly recommend them to anyone.

When shops go above and beyond be sure you "yelp" them .

p-Bar,
I did...although not through Yelp. I hate Yelp as a small business owner myself, Yelp has tried to extort us into using their marketing services and when we didn't sign up, they started to "filter" our positive reviews. They are crooks. Yelping someone in our book means bad news. There's little opportunity for a business owner to respond as it looks like you are just complaining.
I DID review them on Google + and that's a much more fair place to see everyone's experiences. I always try an help good businesses succeed.

I agree with you . Can't believe they get away with that . Skewed data
