The truck is a 07 5. 9 4x4 auto about 30k. The truck is all stock with diprocol egt, boost, and trans temp gauges. While towing the egt gauge will go way past 1600, sustain 1400 for extended periods. Peak boost seems abnormally high 30psi for a stock 3rd gen.

Empty the truck seems to run fine. 500 degrees egts while driving 65-70, over 1000 on hills. Boost will still hit 30 empty on hills.

Do I have a gauge issue? One place thought the probe might be bad, but it is brand new, gauges were used.

I have heard that 3rd gens with stock tuning will get to 1600 degrees but this is way hotter than the 03 with edge juice with attitude runs towing.

Any help, ideas, etc. ?

The boost number is normal for the "600" version of the engine. 30 psi is normal for a stock one, with a tuner mine sees nearly 40 psi.

The egts do seem high though. Stock, unloaded, lugging a little uphill, I can see 1300 or so but I have never seen it hit 1600 except just for a few seconds with the Quadzilla on the 100hp setting. I cant get it that high on the stock or 30 hp settings though.

It is my brother's truck and he said he can go well past 1600 with a light load. He pulls 10-15k regularly (this specific load was not that heavy) and is getting more busy with planting right around the corner.
The reason he thinks that the gauge may not be accurate is that he sustained about 1400 degrees for almost an entire trip with higher peak egts. I would think this would have caused some major issues?

I didn't realize that boost was that high on the newer trucks.

The future plan for the truck is a smarty Jr.

I would think that the guage is off. My 05 use to run 1350-1400 peak when stock with 30-32 lbs boost. The mods I did plus the Smarty Jr brought down my peaks to 1100 degrees and maxboost now is 34.

You mentioned that the gauges were used, but the probe was new... Was the probe manufactured by the same company as the gauge? The gauge is calibrated to the probes and wires resistance, every probe seems to be a little different and will not read accurately if put on a different gauge. If they are not both made to work with each other, I would buy a new gauge. 1400 sustained seems an aweful lot, and I never saw above 1400 with my 07 5. 9 auto towing a 20k dump trailer, and that is pulling 7% grades.

I read about a d-max guy having a similar issue with the same gauge. He didn't have sufficiant power running to the gauge. It would go to 1400 to 1700 and it wouldn't come back down. Then he could shut it off and it would work fine until it went over 1100 and it would read inacccurately. I told my brother about this and he is going to change his power source. Hopefully that will help.

if you were truely at 1600 and plans for smarty jr you could be on your way to making yourself some of the expensive aluminum piston ashyray's:-laf

Dad could see 1400*+ sustained on his stock 06 if he let it... which he wouldn't do...

Numbers seem a little high for stock, but not much... .

This is why I have a Smarty Jr... .

I think it was the gauge. I found anther person who had the simiar issue and it turned out to be insufficiant power to the gauge causing it to get stuck above 1400. I let my brother know but I haven't heard from him. He is super busy with planting season in full swing.

Could be the connection between the thermocouple and the wire harness, clean the connectors . What temp are you at when engine is hot and at idle?
