I pulled up to the pumps the other day to fill my truck up and saw a new sticker added to the pump. It said "Do not run this fuel in 07 or newer trucks" it also went on to say that doing so is against the law as well as it will damage your engine. This got me to thinking, because I have been looking at a new mega cab 06 model, what is going to happen with the fuel for older trucks. My brother recently bought a new truck and they told him the 04 up are already set up for the new fuel. Now wait a minuite if it will damage the engine is 07 and newer but the 04-06 will run either. It sounds like we are not being told the truth about something. Is Ford and Chevy also doing this? I'm sure that they are and this is a federal matter, but If only 500k trucks are sold across who will sell the fuel or where will the 89-03 crowd buy their fuel or is there an addative. Should I be concerened that damage will occor to my older trucks? What about my farm tractor, or Truck Drivers. What gives?

2007 Emission certified engines must use ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel, 15ppm sulfur) or they will plug or damage the aftertreatment device.

Pre-2007 Emission certified engines can use ULSD, the old low sulfur diesel (500ppm sulfur) or high sulfur diesel (up to 5000ppm sulfur).

ULSD will cause some rubber seals on older fuel systems that have been exposed to high sulfur fuel to shrink. This will cause fuel leaks in older fuel systems. In most cases, the seals can be replaced and they will nolonger leak when exposed only to ULSD. It's the change in sulfur levels that causes problems with the seals.

Don't know for sure, but it is my understanding that all retail outlets are supposed to be selling the ultra low sulfur diesel by Oct 15,2006. I read somewhere that they haven't even made the old (low sulfur diesel) since mid summer. If anyone knows different, I stand to be corrected. I know the new sticker isn't on the pumps, but I don't believe there is any of the old diesel left. That had better be right because I will be getting my new truck within a couple of weeks and since I make my living with it, I will put diesel in it when ever I need to no matter what the sticker says on the pump.

It is unfortunate they chose those words. The new fuel will not damage your new engine, but it WILL damage the pollution equipmet installed on it.

I guess the rubber shrinking has what been causing the fuel leaks that I have been experiencing in my trucks. I have had at least 5 or 6 ruber hose and seal failures as well as failures in my tank groments on one of my trucks in the past few weeks, but its hard to believe they have shown up this quickly. I do recall hearing them talk about changing over the production of fuel this summer. Thank you for all of your inputs. gar

Ca.125ppm

If it's any comfort to you guys ,SoCal has been on 125ppm fuel for quite some time now. I work for the school district here in San Diego. Our vehicles have been using ULSD for a long time now with no abnormal problems+no additives. My Hino has 225,000 tough miles now with no driveability issues with the ULSD. ULSD is here to stay. Get over it!

Update: mother mopor just sent a memo to all dealers saying if you can't find the new fuel for the new engines it will not effect the engine's.

Engine, OK. Will Mother Mopar cover emission system component failures due to fuel related (non-ULSD) issues? I would be interested to hear if any '07 owners receive that communication personally... but I won't hold my breath on it.
