I got back from a run on the day before Thanksgiving and as I was closing out my log book I noticed I had gone over 600,000 miles, 600,514 to be exact. I didn't know if I was going to keep doing this long enough to make 600,000 but the truck is still going and things have slowed down enough that I'm able to keep doing it. My wife says this is a good retirement job. Just put 4 new Michelins on the back of it today so I guess I'll need to run a while longer. The only real problems I've had with the truck is the rear end. A 4500 would have been better but they weren't available when I got this one. It was one of the first ones out, build date 10-06. If I can remember how, and can make them small enough, I'll post some pictures of the truck under load and the odometers. Notice I said odometers plural, the regular odometer quit at 533,752 and I have been keeping up with the total miles on trip A of my GPS since June of 2014. I posted about that then. I don't post much anymore, but I believe there are a few of you on the forum that would be interested that I made 600,000 miles.

Its good to hear from you EB, it sure has been awhile. When you say you've had problems with the rear diff, can you elaborate? I remember when you got it, because I was just starting to research for my C&C purchase, in Nov of 06, and you answered all of my questions at the time. BTW, I've just ordered EFI Live for mine.

The first time a carrier bearing went out and knocked a hole in the case. The next two times it was the Torsen limited slip that came apart. When that happened it completely filled the rear end with metal filings, had to pull everything to get it cleaned out and to be safe replaced all the bearings, replaced the bearings the second time not the first, the first time they showed no scaring at all. Everything seems to be OK now, it is pretty expensive with all the bearings. Other than that everything is fine. Guess I'm behind times, I have no idea what EFI Live is.

You can follow my thread on that, for I'm learning myself. I resorted to it to try and get rid of a glitch that I have when in the regen. Mostly, EFI Live is for reprograming the ECM when deleted, but I have to keep my emissions intact. I don't know if you know of TDR member "Bob4X4", but he recommended I try to EFI Live, seeing how I can't get any support from the dealers. Basically it's a tuner that can be reprogramed by emailing the data to the supporting tuner and they send back the changes needed for your needs and you download the new tune. Didn't your C&C get the wrong programing when it was updated awhile back, and had to be reflashed for the proper C&C programing?

I haul in the oilfield. Anything that can be put on my truck or trailer I haul.

Right after I got the truck a pickup flash was put on it. After they figured out what the problem was they reflashed it with the C&C program and it has never been reflashed since then. If something is working I don't like messing with it.

Mine ran flawlessly until mid 2009, it was brought to my attention that there was an update for the ECM during routine service. Afterwards, although I didn't put two and two together at first, it started to feel like the throttle was sticking. The throttle position sensor was replaced under warranty that did not fix it. After a lot of issues latter, to make a long story short, it turned out to be a glitch when in regen that caused it to surge when passing through 2000 RPM when accelerating. I'm hoping that EFI Live can rewrite the regen programing. If this doesn't do the trick, I might have to register it in another State and delete the truck.

EB, I thought you stopped hauling ? How are things down your way ?

Things have slowed down quite a bit down here. I'm not doing but 2 or 3 runs a week if that much. That's fine, like my wife says it's a good retirement job. I'm 70 now, have had back surgery and my knees are going so I really don't want to work like I did 5-10 years ago. I have the knowledge to get things loaded right and to different locations on time. I figure I can sit and drive for a while longer. I've done this for 15 years now and have gone over 1.3 million miles without a ticket or accident. Hope I didn't just jinx myself there. I never get in a hurry, if I need to be some place at a certain time I give myself 30 minutes to 1 hour extra to get there. To sum it up, I figure I will keep going until this truck goes out or for a few more years anyway. I won't buy another truck, when this one goes, I'll hang it up.

EB, thanks for the up date. As you can see, several of us are intrested in your posts. Congrats on the 600K. I am a little older, so I feel your pain. Glad you are taking it easy. Take care.

Hey EB, Its been a while since I was here, good to see your still running around and your truck is still hanging in there. I stopped hauling in October of 04 and am now getting setup to come back in again. Its been a lot slower up here in Colorado too but that's OK. Cant say I really want to work all that hard either, a couple runs a week will do me just fine. My 08 is sitting just under 400,000 miles at the moment but is in need of a little work before I get back on the road. Drive shaft carrier bearing, rear pinion seal, and unfortunately my transfer case. About 1/8 inch of play in the front output shaft... no wonder the seal is leaking!
600,000+ miles. Damn man, that's incredible. I'm hoping for the same thing but as slow as it is now it'll take some time so I might not get there. I'm just 56 so can run a few more years but with electronic logging hitting in a couple I might be looking for an older truck at that point. Or something else to do.

I read about that electronic logging a week or two ago. When that happens, if it really does, I'll hang it up then for sure. The company I work for sure won't pay for that in owner operator trucks so I think that will be it for me. Here are two pictures of the truck and trailer with a couple of loads, a lay-down machine and a load of welded pipe going to a heat stress place

From what I've read EB your going to be fine with your 07. Apparently the law exempts anything older than an 08. So for you its just a matter of how the company you work for wants to operate, if they do or don't care and will try and force you to go electronic. I don't know about my company but if they don't care then my next truck (assuming I still stay in the business) will be older than an 08. The law takes effect in 2 years so we have plenty of time to not worry about it. I figure that if things get busy enough to justify it then I might be in the market for a decent 5.9l Dodge in a couple years. A nice basic truck that will pull like mad and be easy to work on.

So far, the EFILive has eliminated the sticking throttle, although it still surges when in regen, the sticking throttle issue has been eliminated. That has been the most irritating and dangerous (in some situations) issue, after all, it's what took my stock clutch out.

I wouldn't worry about the electronic logging that will more likely take care of itself when the time comes. Two years for the advancement of electronics, cell technology, and wireless operations will dwarf the technology today.
