When I took delivery of my '07 the dipstick read way over the safe mark, darn near the top of the plastic part. Thinking the factory overfilled it,I drained 1/2 qt,which caused the reading to plunge to 1/2 way down the "safe" mark. I recently did my first oil change, draining the block for 20 minutes and removing, then refilling, and replacing the Fleetguard(supplied by Geno's) oil filter. I then filled the block with exactly the remainder of three gallon jugs of Delo 15-40 CI+4(thank you Costco). After running the engine for a spell, checking for leaks(none) I turned the engine off and let it sit for 1/2 hr. on level ground. Lo and behold, same reading on the dipstick, right to the tip top of the plastic! Are any of you '07 owners experiencing this reading after doing your own oil change, thus certifying the correct refill quantity? I hope I just got a crazy dipstick. It's a bit unnerving seeing this reading. Thanks:confused:

hello dave,

mine takes 12 qts exactely every time ... .

i do pull the dipstick checking and rechecking enough times that i get oil in the dipstick tube and can't get a good reading for a little while though.

dare i bring it up?... .

consider sending in a sample to check for fuel leakage

i'll pray for the crazy dip stick.

let me know if you need a hand with anything bro.

Crazy dipstick?

Thanks Jeff. The reading hasn't budged in 1700 miles. I do have a pre-paid oil analysis bottle. I may send some in for peace of mind. Hopefully it's just a crazy dipstick. Thanks.

Dipsticks are not always accurate...

During your next change, add 12 quarts with the filter, run the truck a few minutes, let it sit, then check the dipstick... scribe a new "full mark" on the dipstick where the oil ended up...

On my '07, from the factory, oil dipstick level right at the letter "E" of SAFE.

Stayed exactly there for first 3000 miles at which time I changed and used exactly same filter and oil and change method as Bajabob calls out and next day cold reading oil level was at right back on letter "E".

8000 miles later and any next day cold reading just touching backside of "E", hardly 1/32 inch change, if that.

Dipstick part #3974104.

Dipstick tapemeasured via laying out onto table and hooking shoulder stop of dipstick T-handle on square edge of table just as if shoulder stop was butted up to dipstick oil tube:

41 1/8 inches to center of letter "E"

42 9/32 inches total length, shoulder to end of dipstick.

My 07 always reads right at the top of the Has Mark... I noticed after I put on my Air bags that even with 0 pressore it dropped a little bit to indicate half quart low. Sent in Oil analysis and all is well... . Then I checked after sitting over night and exactly on the full again... . Seems these 07's are not real consistent!!

Dipstick madness.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I'm certain I added exactly 12 qts total(three gallon jugs) with the oil change including filter. I guess the top of the plastic is my full mark. Psychologically disturbing, but reality for mine I guess. Incidentally,my buddy's '07 up the street's dipstick registers halfway between the top of the plastic and the full mark. Came that way from the factory and was the same after a dealer oil change.

Mine is also halfway between the full mark and the top of the plastic. 12 quarts on the first oil change and the factory fill were exactly the same.
