From what I'm hearing about the '08 DMax trucks, they're having their own share of problems aside from emissions gear.
Seems that GM switched over to a 2 micron fuel filter that's relatively small in size (ie, smaller than the one that came on my 2. 8 L KJ CRD), and stayed with a vacuum feed fuel system.
In addition, they added pressure sensors on the inlet and outlet of the filter to act as a D/P sensor, and give you a warning on the drivers display when it was time to change the fuel filter.
That's turning out to be like every 2000 miles!!!
And those guys are getting hit $50 a whack for the factory fuel filter.
And it seems as if the D/P sensors are right on. They're reporting that after as little as 1000 miles their trucks start running like crap as the fuel filter gets clogged, and the only cure is to swap in a new filter. One gent reported that after 1000 miles the truck started running sluggish and the display said he only had 39% fuel filter life left. Swapped in a new filter and it ran fine again.
Some of them have found their own cure - a bigger fuel filter and a lift pump.
