94 2wd 1500 360 v8 trans problems.

Allison/Chevy shift problem

Was just shooting the bull with a work bud who maintains a another fleet which has a '07 D-max. He said the Fenderwell must come out to service the fuel filter. Can this be true?

Wayne - All I know is that I helped my neighbor change his 2001 Duramax fuel filter and it was a pain in the ###. Based on the location of his I could see taking the inner fender out to make it easier. It makes me appreciate the Cummins straight six even more.

I thought I read that the new 6. 7 cummins fuel filter is changed this way as well. You have to remove the inner fender liner, and it makes changing the filter alot easier.

From what I'm hearing about the '08 DMax trucks, they're having their own share of problems aside from emissions gear.

Seems that GM switched over to a 2 micron fuel filter that's relatively small in size (ie, smaller than the one that came on my 2. 8 L KJ CRD), and stayed with a vacuum feed fuel system.

In addition, they added pressure sensors on the inlet and outlet of the filter to act as a D/P sensor, and give you a warning on the drivers display when it was time to change the fuel filter.

That's turning out to be like every 2000 miles!!!

And those guys are getting hit $50 a whack for the factory fuel filter.

And it seems as if the D/P sensors are right on. They're reporting that after as little as 1000 miles their trucks start running like crap as the fuel filter gets clogged, and the only cure is to swap in a new filter. One gent reported that after 1000 miles the truck started running sluggish and the display said he only had 39% fuel filter life left. Swapped in a new filter and it ran fine again.

Some of them have found their own cure - a bigger fuel filter and a lift pump.

'07 Duramax fuel filter... .

My 2007 Dmax is easy to change, only slightly worse than my Cummins and the filters are more expensive. Now the 2007. 5 LMM could be a different story, I have no experience with one.

I'm gonna try it on my duramax this afternoon. Looks alot harder than the cummins.

Open the drain on the bottom to drain the fuel out, unplug the electrical plug, spin of the filter. Pull the drain petcock off the old filter, install on new filter, spin on new filter, connect plug, prime and done. To prime it is simple. Loosen a screw, push a few times on the primer until a little fuel is visible, tighten bleeder screw and no hard starts. It takes me about as long as it did to type this.

How much different is the fuel filter access in the '07. 5 CTDverses, say an '04 CTD? I just don't understand the persistance with V type engines. It seems like the future... .
