05 Fuel Drain Hose Rotted - replacement suggestions?

5.9 Cummins ISB engine shut down

Hello out there. My Freightliner MT 45 / 5.9 Cummins ISB has been off the road this winter. I start the engine once a week. It idles rough when cold as though it is starving for fuel, intermittent ramps down then back up to normal rpm. There’s an engine idle cut out at 5 minutes , so I depress the excelorater every 5 min to keep it running for 15 min. It stopped after a minute of idling this week. I drained the water separater and no water only diesel drained out , a good shot glass worth. What do I look for next. Any and all advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Please provide the last 6 of the vin. I wonder if it has the Fleetguard FF5079 inline filter in addition to the engine mounted fuel filter like the FL70's did.

PM it to me if you don't want the vin public.

I have a customer with an 07 mt55. It does have an inline filter I think it near the ecm. Also is the lift pump running? I have replaced more than one on theirs.

Don’t know the model, but we have some Freightshaker vans with ISB’s. Well known for an electrical horror show where power train junctions and splices are.

Yes the engine light came on just before the shut down, this always lights up seconds before the 5 min engine idle shut down. I was just going to depress the excelerator when I saw it but was to late . Would not start again

Not sure if the lift pump is running, how do I verify this. Thanks

Chances are that this truck is not built like the Rams, in that certain parts are not standardized. Meaning you need mwilsons's help in figuring out exactly where the lift pump is, if you can't find it yourself. My bet it's built into the water separator, but in any event, I would start by ensuring the fuel quality, and delivery.

Need last 6 of the vin, trucks are not like cars. Too many options and customer specific builds to go on year and model alone.

I have a feeling that the water separator is also the lift pump as there are wires connected to the filter housing.
Thanks for your help

Fuel Filter is mounted to the frame, correct??

This is where the lift pump is mounted, right by the ECM. Looks like it has a fuel cooled plate behind the ECM and the block.

There is a technical bulletin where Cummins decided mounting them to the engine block was not such a great idea due to the vibration. There is a kit to relocate the lift pump so it may have already been done to yours.

That is the same pump that my customers has. I believe it mounts in 2 rubber isolators. You should be able to hear it especially if you open the doghouse. I believe it will run for a minute at key on, or bump the starter and listen. There is a fuel heater above the filter that those wires go to.
