Well my lucky streak just ran out I guess. :{ Been reading about all the problems with the 6. 7 but I was hoping I would be an exception. No such luck. 18050 miles and one year old. . new fuel filter at 15k miles,. engine light comes on ... goes off...comes back on. . truck starts to chug and sputter... no smoke... no chimes... no overhead alerts, no overheating. . nothing. . just quit. She will still restart quickly but even a little feather on throttle and she chokes down. . 1-2 mph speed. Not bad fuel. . went through eighth of tank... about 80 miles on trip meter since last fill up. Sounded like it wasnt getting fuel or maybe DPF was plugged up, EGR plugged up? Too many short trips? Lift pump or injector pump? I will bet it has something to do with the emissions control interventions) #@$%!
She is sitting in Donovan Dodge Dealership (sierra vista AZ) driveway locked up for this Sunday night. (they had gates locked and tow unit could not deliver her into the lot area). . So will get up first light and get down there when they open and explain my problem. I will let you guys know what happened. Still under warranty but dealerships still scare me.

PS: Tow unit was flat bed. I asked why the flat bed? Tow unit driver said "you cant tow 2 tires up and 2 down with these trucks... either 4 down or 4 up is the only way cause it will mess up the transmission. "
IS THIS TRUE? (still a newbie and learning)
Thanks for letting me vent and purge.

Yes On tow truck I believe cause they do not have lock out hub's the frontend will still turn Flatbed is Better anyway

Please, let us know the outcome. As for the towing, any vehicle with a transfer case can usually be towed any way you like. The transfer case unlocks the drive shafts and one end of the vehicle would not know what the other end was doing. But heck, there is nothing wrong with flat bed towing.

She's back and ok!

Truck is ok. Seems I have been doing too many short trips with her, that coupled with not knowing when it is in regen sooted everything up. [Code: P2262] They have a "New Flash" that came out in March 09 that I needed so they upgraded my ECM with the new flash.

The ECM computer showed all the times I turned off the engine while in Regen and technician told me that the ECM just restarts the Regen all over again... . . . over and over till sensors give it a completed sign. Regen restarts are the worst thing you can do to one of these 6. 7's tech said and would increase amount of oil dilution with more fuel being added with each restart and also soot up turbo and EGR components too. Tech told me to hook up to a load and work her hard, get operating temp up at least before shut down. With the 2 mile trips to work and back... that poor motor wasn't even close to operating temps. Now I know! :D These rigs were built as WORK trucks, not grocery delivery.
I also found out I didnt have fast idle capability using cruise control buttons. Tech said they are only putting those on bigger trucks now since 7. 5 on.
When I get my Dash Hawk Monitor plugged in I will be able to see regen at least. Whew! I feel lucky. :-laf

You DO have high idle capability with the cruise buttons. I had it turned on when my dad bought his 08.

Monroe: Yeah... thats what I thought too but... . what can I do when a dealership tells you that you do NOT have it? I just asked them to enable it while they were in there working with the computer and they declined saying it was not available on "some trucks", then they said "available only on BIG trucks" since 7. 5 production dates. Even when YOU have the information (From TDR guru's) you can't do anything when they look you right in the eyes and say NO and NOT AVAILABLE. What should I have said to the technicians and service manager?? I will be returning to western PA in a few weeks and will attempt to have it enabled at the dealership I purchased it from. I kind of wanted it cause of the bad winters we have back there with the lake effect and chill factors, etc.

Yeah if the dealership isn't willing to work with you there isn't much you can do. Luckily the dealership that did mine and my dads was willing to look through the star scan menus and find it. Good luck getting it taken care of.

When a dealer tech looks you in the eye and either deliberately lies or shows his complete ignorance as this guy did it's hard to have confidence in anything else he told you. Some are sharp, many don't know as much as the owner does beyond simply running the diagnostic tests and replacing parts.

Big City Dealership experience 5 star dealer ,

My 08 has high idle enabled and now the current "AS" ECM Flash , and a new updated hood sticker I will see what happens next ?

Still all of the stumbling seems like a fuel filter choked out ? acts like the motor cant breathe exhaust restriction DPF plugged or something carboned or sooted up? Has the turbo had the cleaning port installed and had the foam sprayed in? egr systems desooted and cleaned ,motor seen much idling?

It should be throwin a code of some type if mechanical ,DPF plugged , EGR sooted, plugged or turbo but there should be a code? a mechanical or bad injector issue would be noted in cylinder performance test .

Yesterday as the service writer wrote my garage repair order, i requested a diesel service writer which they did not have, i said let me read what you are requesting the mechainc to do on the service repair order, and told him to write rising engine oil level climbing regen issues, and reflash ecm from AR to AS. and check for codes or faults.

His written suggestion was to replace fuel filter if it had not allready been done. I keep a spare fuel filter in my tool box also.

Also had the current copy of TDR laying on the seat that probally helped too !!!

they handled my request to my satifaction .

TSB Updates on 6.7

Harvey, You hit the nail on the head with this analogy not all dealers have a level 4 diesel tech or pay to retain or train them.

Diesel service writers are not at all dealerships either but our TDR Knowledge is a invaluable resource when asking questions. i have a printout of all applicable 6. 7 TSB updates and have checked off each one as complete. most dealers wont do a service unless there is a code thrown so they get paid from chrylser or you point out a missing applicable TSB.

I was hoping my 08 6. 7 truck would be immune to service issues listed in these forums "wrong" it came down the same production line as other trucks with same problems also.

I have had to become an assistant diagnostic tech because of these 6. 7 issues but am more knowledgeable for it also due to TDR reader resources.

Austin: Darn it! I should have told the service manager to record all those issues that you spoke of as I am in the exact same boat, Regen issues and climbing oil levels. But the order was printed only with the code that was thrown [P2262] and that they reflashed it and fixed the problem. NEXT time I will now better. Thanks!

write it down on a sheet and get them to add it in to your service logs

mine is going into chapter 2

mine threw the 2262 they installed cleaning port on turbo and foamed it with the cleaner, desooted egr system and cleaned EGR valve

as per chrysler protocals it lasted 2 weeks threw same code again said it was turbo failure replaced

asked for exhaust wrap and 02 sensor replacement/ done

they must jump through the hoops to get paid for work from chrysler to get paid reimbursment for procedures in a specific order according to my service manager

turbo was about 1850. 00 no charge to me got a 09 model

i make sure all this is documented in case this is lemoned out

but all is well for now with AS flash

Ar flash in place just did a 1800 road trip to MO last week running 82 mph at about 2025 rpm 19. 5 to 18 mpg lightly loaded

oil levels and partial regens washing out oil viscosity samples prior to this

Austin:
Well I am in the Army here at Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista AZ. I am leaving in ten days and will be going to PA hometown, Volant so does this information follow me electronically? I am thinking that having them put all this into a log over here will do me no good when I am 2300 miles away. When I threw the 2262 code they didnt clean a darn thing, just did the flash thing is all they did. Well if it happens again I will make sure they record everything. Thanks for the information too. You and I are having similar problems and your truck is one year older than mine. Ironic huh? You would figure they would have fixed all these bugs on your 09. It probably takes a few years I guess. Will have to hang in there. Thanks again.
