I have a 06 5. 9 coming off of lease and have the option to buy. It has 18000 miles on it and I just love the truck.

The dealer has offered me a new 08 for $4,000. 00 more. I know that it has the 6. 7 and I am a bit Leary about all the emissions crap.

I get 22 MPG with the 06 empty at 65.

What can I expect with the 08?

When I drove the 08 I loved the power and acceleration not that the 06 was bad the 08 just has more snap. The 6 speed auto is nice as is the engine break.

Would this be a good move or should I stay with the 06 and hop it up?

Any thoughts.

well your mpg will be a little less but the smile on your face will be HUGH I love my 08 and do not regret buying it what so ever my best is 18. 5 at 70 + I drive it like I stoled it and so far 30,000 miles in 1 yr and Lovin it . Sounds like a good deal if you want the new 1 Go for it .

if you putt around town and don't work the truck like simplysmn said your gonna have problems with the 6. 7. its hard on all common rails to idle the truck and not work it, just pulled the head on a truck of my buddies that he just bought, it was running rough and the head is just full of carbon because they never took it out and blew the cobwebs out of it.

The 6. 7s are nice, but if you want something fun and something to soup up with no emmissions problems then I would keep your current truck.

18000 miles on an '06 leads me to believe it has seen it's fair share of short trips and from your description sounds like it has lead a fairly easy life. That '06 can continue to give you years more of trouble free service.

If you intend to use the '08 in a more work oriented environment seeing greater amouts of regular use, then I'd say go for it. But if it is going to be another low mileage truck for you, stick with the '06.

I hated my 6. 7 it gave me so much grief with the emissions junk. I put a straight pipe and a programmer on it and now it runs like it should. Any body that has not done this to theirs yet ..... you would be amazed at how much better the truck performs. Figure on about 2500. 00 for the deletes .

I can't believe that they really offered you an 08 for another $4000.

The residual on your truck now has to be more than its worth... I bet if you go back you'll find they've made a simple mistake...

How much do they want for you to buy your 06... .

$23,500. 00 is the buy out on the 06.

They tell me that being I am comming out of a lease and Dodge no longer offers a lease there is additional insentives availibe to keep me in a Dodge product. Plus the $1,700. 00 refund for not using all of the miles this puts the 08 at

$28,000. 00 and change. about $50. 00 more a month over the lease pmnt.

The truck is used to pull a 32' inclosed trailer 12000 lbs in the summer and a 4 place snowmobile trailer in the winter. Not a whole lot of in town.

I replaced a POS Chev that I used to drive daily 60 miles to and from work. But never realy used the 06 that way even though the milage with the 06 was better right out of the box. I decided to buy a small car to drive to and from work and save the diesel. Although I really love to drive the 06 instead. I think it is my favorite vehicle. I love driving it more then I do my 69 SS Camaro! And thats a fun ride.

For your application I would answer that it is simply a matter of personal choice.

The 6. 7 engines in cab and chassis applications are very reliable and nearly troublefree and after minor issues with '07. 5 pickups, which are still being corrected with minor updates, the pickup engines are very reliable also. The number of problems reported with '08s have been very few.

The new trucks are great, in my opinion. The new six speed transmissions are a great improvement for towing.

The 08 is great, just don't expect it to be trouble free. If it were me, I'd be inclined to keep the 06, but the 08 sure is fun and its issues seem to be manageable with a delete kit, so its a tough decision. However, if you're tight for money, definitely stay with the 06.

Thanks for all the input!

I spoke with the Cummins tech at the dealer yesterday. He pulled me aside and asked why I would want to trade, that the 06s and early 07s were some of the best trucks built!

So I guess i have the answer to my question.

Thanks!

BEvens, I have both 5. 9 and 6. 7 trucks look at my signature. Even though the 6. 7 is the C&C with the detuned version, (305 HP) I love it. But the MPG is horrible at 18 MPG at 55 MPH empty. But it is better than my 04. 5 as far as the Chassi, components and features for the C&C. But I also love my 04. 5 for the MPG, 22 MPG at 55 MPH is a lot better, and seems as strong as the C&C. I didn't have a choice in the C&C because it was what I needed for my service truck. If it were me, I would keep the 06 and enjoy the long life it has ahead of you. With only 18,000 miles, it's not even broken in yet. You can spend half of the $4000. 00 on the Jacobs Exhaust Brake and not effect your warranty. ;)

I was thinking that and a set of gauges.

Then I would be a very happy camper!
