Hi,

My 08 Ram 2500 6.7 has been acting up for a while. The transmission sometimes shifts from 1st to 4th. I noticed it does it as temp gets higher. The code p0700 shows up and I did a little research and I'm thinking about replacing the valve body and shift solenoid. Can anyone help me out with any ideas the transmission shifts good when it's not acting up..

P0700 is a flag code that sets (in the ECM) to tell you there is some other fault set in the TCM. You should have a dealer or shop read the TCM codes; that will explain what's going on.

Trans shifting 1st to 4th is called "logical limp-in" and is in response to a Gear Ratio Error fault (slippage within the trans). The specific code(s) that are set will indicate which gears the trans slipped in. I would suspect you have a burned OD clutch pack. For any clutch that is bad (OD or otherwise), you have to pull the trans and tear it down to repair. A valve body or solenoid by itself will likely not fix it.

I just got the transmission rebuilt though replaced everything about 3 weeks ago still doing the same thing.

Have a dealer check the TCM fault codes, and also read the DTC Event Data (a block of data that gets written into memory whenever a fault sets). That will show you what was going on when the fault set. If the trans was just rebuilt, then maybe you have a bad speed sensor reading (due to a wiring problem), which could cause a Gear Ratio Error and logical limp-in.
