Hit a moose and when they repaired the front end they put a solid insert in the new bumper. It didn't and doesn't have tow hooks but I remember it as being open for ram air to flow thru the lower coolers, condensers, etc. Any pictures or part numbers for the insert that should be there?

If it's like my 03 then it sounds like you got the 1/2 ton version of the front bumper insert. It's going to be a problem since we have coolers back there that the little trucks don't.

Take it back to them, that is not the right part.

I agree that they put a half-ton insert in there.

My suspicion is that the 1/2 ton insert was available aftermarket and the correct one was not.

They figured it would be "Close Enough"... ... "they are all the same" . .

I know lately that the insurance adjusters are tough to deal with as well and very likely forced the repair shop to use that part due to price, but as the customer you need to stand your ground.

If you encounter resistance then politely mention that if that truck overheats any components they will be paying for a lot more than a correct part... ... .

Mike. :)

Checked the parts manual. One size fits all models w/o tow hooks and it's solid. Can anybody with an '08 tell me if their's is an open design. The repair guys can't find a different part # either.

Are you dealing with Dodge parts guys?????

Just curious, also isn't the painted center part of the Laramie package??

Is it possible that it is tied to the trim level of the truck as well as to the 2500/3500 Diesel??

Let me know, maybe I can pull in a favor from my local dealer...

I believe the repair guys used the part number I got from the local Dodge dealer (they didn't put any fascia in at first). When the dealer put in the Vin# they only got one part number, if they put in the just the model they got two, with and without tow hooks. All the on line parts seem to agree with the one I've got. Of course they're copying Dodge's numbers.

I'm in the middle of Nox sensor hell right now, but later on I will get into the parts program for Dodge and see what I can find.

Good project for me at suppertime. .

Using my '06 Mega Cab Vin I come up with Part # 68001358AA which is a primed bumper cover that covers 06-09. Lists out at about $300. 00.

What exactly is your truck????

An '08 what??? Trim level, model, etc. ?

Mike. :)

Oh, a Mainer eh'..... :)

Is the body shop dealing with Lee Dodge in Auburn???

If not, then I would call them with the VIN and see what they come up with. I have had excellent luck with the parts dept. there.

I am coming up with two choices, so should they.

Got a Maine Joke for you, see below... .

The only cow in a small town in Colorado stopped giving milk. The people did some research and found they could buy a cow in Maine for $200. 00.

They bought the cow from Maine and the cow was wonderful. It produced lots of milk all of the time, and the people were pleased and very happy.

They decided to acquire a bull to mate with the cow and produce more cows like it. They would never have to worry about their milk supply again.

They bought a bull and put it in the pasture with their beloved cow.

However whenever the bull came close to the cow, the cow would move away. No matter what approach the bull tried, the cow would move away from the bull and he could not succeed in his quest.

The people were very upset and decided to ask the Vet, who was very wise, what to do.

They told the Vet what was happening.

"Whenever the bull approaches our cow, she moves away. If he approaches from the back, she moves forward. When he approaches her from the front, she backs off. An approach from the side and she walks away to the other side. "

The Vet thinks about this for a minute and asked, "Did you buy this cow in Maine?"

The people were dumbfounded, since they had never mentioned where they bought the cow.

"You are truly a wise Vet," they said.

"How did you know we got the cow in Maine?

The Vet replied with a distant look in his eye,

"My wife is from Maine. .

Sorry to hear about your Moose hit,I've hit two myself in 34 yrs here in AK. How bad was the damage? Every time I drive at night I worry about hitting one, every shadow is a moose. Sure wish Dodge would have spent more then $5 designing our headlight reflectors.

I've used the dealer in Augusta, helpful. The two numbers they found were for with or without tow hooks, I got the without, no separate choice for the 6. 7L. May have to resort to the sabre saw or just take it out in the summer (edge of the bumper is pretty sharp though, will have to warn the wife when she washes it).

If the bride washes your truck for you make it as safe as possible so you don't scare her away... ..... :)

If you are running 201 or some other route where the Moose let you use their road then you might want to invest in one of these...
