Have an 08 w/76K gears 1-6 work fine, clutch pedal feels good but it won't shift into reverse. Any ideas greatly apprecieated.

I assume you have tried engaging and disengaging the clutch several times and moving the truck forward slightly with one of the forward gears and it still won't allow shifting into reverse? Has it been difficult to shift into reverse previously or has reverse made any strange noises when backing?

NFranco,

Please feel the clutch pedal with your hand, assess the feel at the top 0-2" of pedal travel.

q. Does it feel sloppy and the begining creation of pressure is delayed?

q. In your 1st and 2nd gear engagements (begining of forward movement) does the truck start to move as soon as the pedal no longer touches the carpet?

Observe pedal to master cylinder junction, specifically the white pin, any issues, looseness?

Any noises or other possibly related observations?

THX for the responses. The hydraulics seem fine. This happened all of sudden. It feels like reverse is blocked off in the transmission.

That is correct it just goes into 2nd. If it is a bad transmission is it covered as "powertrain warranty? (Truck is under 100,000m)

I've never heard of a Dodge Ram with a factory 100k "powertrain warranty. " The Cummins engine is covered by warranty for 5 years or 100k miles but the transmission is covered for only 3 years and 36k miles unless you bought some sort of aftermarket or Ram extended warranty. If you bought a warranty you'll have to read the paperwork or consult the administrator.

Have you installed any performance devices? Do you have oversize wheels? Have you done much off roading? Do you tow heavy?

A signature would be helpful.

Pull the shifter boot(s) up and take out the four bolts that hold the shift lever in. There are four ,for lack of the proper name, shift rods side by side. With the trans in nuetral are all four indentations in line? They should be. If the one on the right side (I think, could be left side) is out of position the shifter won't be able to engage it.

THX for the replies. I ended up taking the truck to the dealer, shift linkage needed to be replaced. $630. 00. At least it wasn't internal... .

OMG:eek: I had to buy the linkage for my G56 when I did the swap. It cost less than $160, so that means they charged you over $500 to take out 8 screws for the boots and 4 nuts for the linkage plate, lift the shifter out, install new shifter and reinstall the hardware. Oh, and another 10 minutes to remove and reinstall the knob on the shift lever itself. I would have gladly done the job for half of that:-laf
