I am picking up my 09 2500 4x4 ctd on Saturday! yea! I have been allover this site to get a feel for the 6. 7 and assin transmission. There just isn't much info. So is there just not many issues or am i missing somthing. Bottom line is. . what should are things I should be aware of. Thanks in advance

I was under the impression that only the cab/chassis trucks had Aisin 6 speed transmissions. Others had the 6 speed dodge trans.

I have had my 2009 for only 10 days, and the only thing that I am fighting right now is a tire problem. I have the generals on it, but wish I had michelins. I took it to a dealer yesterday to have the tires balanced and they found the left front tire had a bubble on the sidewall. They replaced it under warranty, but on the way home the bouncing was worse. They are not my selling dealer, but seemed eager to take care of warranty work. There seemed to be indentions where the plys came together in the construction of the tire, but they said it was normal. I thought I was going to get a complete set of new tires, but only got the left front replaced. I will be taking it back on Thursday for another look at the problem. Going on vacation on Friday with the fiver, can't have the out of balance issue. Gary

You are correct. Cab and Chassis trucks are equipped with an Aisin six speed automatic, pickups are equipped with a new MOPAR AS68RFE six speed automatic that was introduced with the ISB6. 7 mid-year 2007. I haven't heard of a single failure with either transmission and many are in service pulling heavy trailers.

OP: The reason you don't see any posts on the '09s is there probably are not a lot of them in service among TDR members. The complaints of CELs, trouble codes, sooted turbos, and DPFs that showed up with the '07. 5s when they were first sold have slowly almost disappeared. Owners have learned better how to drive them, dealers have learned better how to service them, and Cummins/Dodge engineers have improved the engine software and perhaps made slight modifications to turbos or emissions components. The problems reported with '08s have been few and I don't think I've seen a single complaint about '09s.

Edit: I think I got the number/letter designation wrong on the MOPAR six speed automatic but, in fact, the pickup uses a MOPAR six speed automatic and the cab and chassis uses an Aisin six speed automatic.

Thats exactly WHY I love this site! A place I can get the truth. My ******* said it has the asin!! The problem is I think he thinks it is the asin, He just dosn't know he product. Thats not comforting.

Thanks Hbarlow, the good news is the as68rfe IS reliable. I was hoping that was the reason there are not many post about it. I had an 03 (48re) with more problems than I can tell here! ( in fact it was one reason I went to duramax in 07) The duramax allison was a great combo. But I didn't want to be a giunea pig on the 07 6. 7, DPF.

I loved my 03 and I can't wait to get my 09!! ( I think I peed a little )

Thanks guys, and TDR!

I'll just chime in and say I love my 09! Towing the fiver is a dream with the exbrake. 2700 miles and driving it like I stole it! :-laf

Keep this post and look at in

3 Years..... I'll bet we will have some interesting "accounts" by then...

I've had my 09 since February and now have over 12K miles on it. The only issue that I have had was getting the windshield wiper motor replaced (a known issue that has a TSB). Otherwise, I love the truck. The power is amazing, the exhaust brake w/ tow haul mode is incredible and the milage is a steady 16-17 on highway (which is what I expected, given the DPF).

Well I finnaly picked it up tuesday. It's great! And evry thing I hoped. My last truck was a duramax/allison. I did like that combo and hoped the new 6. 7 and dodge 6 speed was as good. It is! I really like the exh brake and in tow haul it really slows it down. I can't wait to tow and test it under load. I will keep you all posted as I put on some miles. :)

Just put 6. 800 on mine. Round trip from AZ to NY towing a 6x10 with a GoldWing. Absolutly perfect. The auto with the exhaust brake is great. The only complaint I have is the Fuel mileage and the POS drivers seat The best I got was 13. 5. I hope it gets better as it gets broken in, it had 400 miles on it when I left home. .

When I got my 2006 3500 auto, the fuel mileage was sort of OK, but not great. When it turned 40,000, it made a huge increase in fuel mileage, and again at 80,000. I've got 150,000 on it now, and haven't seen a major increase. It is consistently over 20 miles per gallon, calculated, but I don't drive it over 65 mph. I found that the mileage took a significant hit over that speed, so I just don't drive faster.

I have a 14000 pound tow behind toy hauler, and so I installed an Edge Attitude to give me some more towing power to make up for the 48RE. It worked. I also get around a 5% increase in fuel mileage for normal driving with the chip on setting 1 (economy). I didn't add any other components like intake, exhaust, - nothing.

I have never tried the chip over setting 2 (towing) so I have no idea what happens.

I have been so happy with my 2006, that I ordered a 2010. I have been reading with interest all of the posts about the regen, and admit that I'm just a little bit nervous. But whatever. I fell in love with the new Dodge interior, and just can't wait to make payments again. <<grin>>.

I hope that the reported lower milieage of the 6. 7 will improve when the motor gets 40k on it.

Oh, I did have the dealership install a Jacobs when I first bought the truck. In my opinion, NO DIESEL should be without one. I have still not had to change brake pads, and the feeling of safety going downhill with a big load on, is worth every penny.

Just my . 02.

I just picked up my new 09 (built 8/09) and now have 220 miles on it. Need to change my signature. 3500 SLT 68rfe srw. I forgot to ask for the wiring harness for brake control. anybody know if it should come with it like my 02 did? Maybe I should start new thread.

Dave

It should have! Mine did, and I just installed it today. Maybe it's part of a 'towing kit' option. I can't imagine these trucks coming without one.

I'd go back to the dealer and politely ask for the connector - that may be the best way to get a free one.

Several items were missing from my truck: Front floor mats, antenna, lug wrench, owners manual... the salesman went out on the lot and acquired the missing items from other trucks! I didn't discover the lug wrench was missing until after the sale, but the dealer still gave me one for free.

If you have to buy a connector, many of the brake controller manufacturers sell a complete cable - truck connector on one end, brake controller on the other. No wire splicing required. I'm too cheap for that, though. I cut the connector off from my old Ford and spliced on the connector that came with my Dodge, and then checked it three times.

Thanks for the info on the wiring harness that is missing. I knew that it was part of the package when I bought my 02 but completely forgot about it on this new truck. Will call Dave Smith Motors and see what the story is. Hard to believe they would take out of new trucks. They did want to sell and install a lot of add ons such as hitchs and lots of chrome so we will see. Will let you know

Dave

12000 miles high side of power steer line had to be replace and bushing in the clutch pedal. Beydond that the truck is great in the last two weeks the truck has moved over 150,000 lbs of machine shop hardware
