1/2 ton repower? updated with ??
Sorry fellas,
I wrote this post late last night, and forgot to ask my (stupid) questions...
Got a line on a rebuilt '95 12v motor, nv4500, transfercase, and accessories for $4K... . My gasser's got 280k on the ticker and it's time for a repower...
Here's what I think I need to get:
radiator
intercooler
vacuum pump
diesel fuel tank and pump
3/4 ton front springs
diesel wiring harness and gage cluster?
exhaust...
What did I miss? Will have to change out the radiator support to fit the diesel radiator?
If I want to have an auto transmission, will I have to get a different PCM? I assume the one from the donor vehicle will not work because it is for a manual trans.
Figure I could spend $7k total... Does that sound about right? Or am I being too optimistic? I plan on doing most of the work myself. Will this project be be a bolt in deal or am I going to have to do some serous cutting and welding?
I suppose the 1/2 driveshaft will not hook up to the diesel transfercase, or can I swap output shafts to match the yoke?
I'm not going to pull much with the truck, going to be a fairly stock daily driver. What do ya'll think?
I have been looking at a 2002 3/4 ton for about $20k... . I'm not sure if I want to go that route. It wouldn't be much fun... but it sure gives perspective...
